A Senior II Site Reliability Engineer is needed for the Routing Services team at Akamai. Responsibilities include managing routing infrastructure, enhancing production systems, resolving network problems, creating automation, and ensuring reliable network services. This position supports Akamai's distributed compute platform and focuses on maintaining and improving critical systems for optimal performance and reliability.

You will work closely with SREs, network engineers and architects on infrastructure changes, incident resolution and improvements to routing services.

As a Senior II Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Operating, maintain and troubleshoot Linux-based routing infrastructure in production.
  • Investigating BGP routing issues, network connectivity problems and routing configuration failures.
  • Supporting routing software such as FRRouting (FRR), including configuration, upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Developing and maintain automation for routing infrastructure, configuration management and operational tasks using tools such as Ansible
  • Supporting and deploying cloud-native, third party software utilizing an infrastructure as code paradigm
  • Participating in production incidents, perform root cause analysis and drive follow-up improvements.
  • Improving monitoring, alerting and observability for routing services.
  • Defining and maintain Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for supported services.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Demonstrate expertise in Site Reliability Engineering, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a comparable role centered on infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Linux system administration and advanced troubleshooting abilities.
  • Demonstrate expertise in TCP/IP networking, routing protocols, and efficient network troubleshooting techniques.
  • Demonstrate expertise in BGP, routing policies, and foundational routing concepts.
  • Have experience with routing software such as FRRouting (FRR) or similar technologies.
