About the Role

We are seeking a System Management Engineer to oversee the governance and day-to-day operations of a mission-critical Command and Control (C2) system used by a government agency. You will join a team responsible for keeping the system reliable, compliant with its Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and well managed across operations, contracts, change, procurement and budget. This is a seconded role based permanently at the client's site.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and SLA management

  • Monitor system health, uptime and downtime; log and update incidents, escalate issues per process and keep stakeholders informed
  • Hold vendors to their SLAs and contractual obligations, and support the administrative process for any non-conformance
  • Provide support across all project sites
  • Support power servicing activities: confirm power supply follows the approved diagrams, notify stakeholders, and ensure power and system availability are restored

Patching and change management

  • Ensure patches are tested and verified before seeking approval for downtime, communicate downtime to all stakeholders, and confirm system availability once patching is complete
  • Manage Change Requests (CRs) end to end: define requirements, review and finalise vendor solutions, obtain system owner approval, track progress, witness the change and close out the CR

Contracts, procurement and budget

  • Manage contract activities such as variation requests across hardware maintenance, software licence and security certificate contracts
  • Support procurement, including requests and queries for procurement, maintenance, service master contracts and service charges under bulk tenders
  • Support invoice verification, budget monitoring and forecasting for services and products, event support, system enhancements, CRs and ad-hoc jobs

Lifecycle and compliance

  • Manage obsolescence for software licences, hardware, operating systems and certificates
  • Plan and track technical refresh based on asset lifespan, including GPC/OPC, services and infrastructure migrations
  • Support security clearance submissions for vendors and audits of Authority Furnished Spares
  • Support baseline reviews and management, including review of operation and maintenance manuals

Advisory and documentation

  • Provide technical advice and project management recommendations
  • Maintain and review documentation such as the project handbook, meeting minutes and vendor documents (troubleshooting, user and operational guides)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business IT or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in operations support or project management, supporting mission-critical systems with stringent SLAs (e.g. 99.9% availability)
  • Solid knowledge of operations best practices and IT Service Management (ITSM) standards, processes and guidelines
  • Able to understand system and software architecture and the users' operating environment
  • Able to perform in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Eager to pick up new technologies

Nice to Have

  • Professional certifications such as PMP or ITIL

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
