ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Alarm.com Software Rotation Program is a structured, cohort-based experience designed for exceptional early-career engineers who want to build deep technical expertise across Alarm.com's most strategic product areas. Over the course of three years, participants complete multiple technical and customer focused rotations before transitioning into a Software Engineer role.

This is not a traditional early-career role. We are looking for engineers who are intellectually curious, technically rigorous, and eager to contribute meaningfully from day one. Each rotation is a genuine team placement with real ownership — participants are embedded engineers, not observers.

A core principle of this program is building engineers who understand Alarm.com's customers as deeply as they understand the code. Participants will be intentionally exposed to customer-facing projects throughout their rotations — learning to evaluate technical decisions not just for correctness, but for the real-world impact they have on the millions of homeowners, businesses, and service providers who rely on Alarm.com every day.

This position is part of a cohort-based program. To ensure all participants begin rotations together and receive a consistent onboarding and development experience, employment for all cohort members begins on a single, unified start date.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Across all rotations, program participants will:

  • Design, implement, and test new software features with full engineering ownership
  • Contribute to the innovation and improvement of existing products and systems
  • Analyze functional requirements and translate product specifications into quality software
  • Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies relevant to each rotation area
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and drive them to completion on schedule
  • Collaborate with QA, product, and cross-functional engineering teams on testing and deployment
  • Deliver end-of-rotation presentations to leadership, demonstrating technical growth and business impact
  • Engage with customer-facing product areas to develop a deep understanding of end-user needs — learning how engineering decisions directly shape the experience of Alarm.com's customers
  • Apply a customer-first lens when designing and evaluating solutions, considering usability, reliability, and real world impact alongside technical correctness
  • Participate in customer feedback reviews, product discussions, and cross-functional sessions that connect engineering work to the people it serves
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 0+ years of professional software development experience (internship experience counts)
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, thoughtful, well-tested code
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a tenacious, self-directed work style
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills — ability to explain technical ideas clearly to varied audiences
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
  • Passion for building high-quality consumer technology products
  • Genuine curiosity about AI, IoT, and the intersection of software and hardware
  • Ability to think through the customer lens — genuine interest in understanding how your work affects real people, and willingness to engage with product feedback, customer context, and end-user outcomes
  • Available to begin employment on the designated cohort start date (see above)
  • Travel as needed to meet rotation requirements and temporary relocation (housing provided)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or coursework in machine learning, computer vision, or AI-adjacent domains
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, or platform engineering
  • Previous relevant internship(s) in software engineering, applied AI, platform/infrastructure, or a related technical discipline — candidates with hands-on industry experience in areas aligned to our rotation tracks are strongly preferred
  • Contributions to open source projects or a strong personal/academic project portfolio
  • Experience working on or directly adjacent to customer-facing features, products, or support — any role where understanding the end user was part of the job

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Dedicated mentor and rotation manager throughout the program
  • Regular 1:1s, mid-rotation check-ins, and structured performance feedback
  • Presentation skills coaching and executive exposure opportunities
  • Networking with Engineering Directors and senior leadership
  • A clear, structured path to Software Engineer position
  • Rotations outside of a traditional software engineering career path
  • Base salary: $105,000–$110,000 | Annual bonus: $5,000 | Merit increases eligible under standard company guidelines

Please note that sponsorship of new applicants for employment authorization, or any other immigration-related support, is not available for this position at this time.

Expected Start Date: June 14, 2027 - Candidates must be available to begin full-time employment on this date. By applying to this role, candidates confirm their availability to begin on the designated cohort start date.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
