Position Summary
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing all aspects of bakery operations, including production, merchandising, sales, food safety, inventory management, and team leadership. This position helps ensure the department delivers high-quality products, exceptional customer service, and a clean, safe, and profitable operation while maintaining company standards.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Assist in managing daily bakery department operations.
- Ensure bakery products are prepared, packaged, displayed, and stocked according to company standards.
- Maintain attractive product presentation and proper signage.
- Monitor product freshness, quality, and inventory levels.
- Support production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink.
Team Leadership
- Assist with training, coaching, and developing bakery associates.
- Provide direction and support to team members during daily operations.
- Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork and customer satisfaction.
- Serve as manager-on-duty for the department when the Bakery Manager is absent.
- Assist with performance management and accountability processes.
Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding customer service and create a welcoming shopping experience.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and bakery requests.
- Promote bakery programs, seasonal items, and special promotions.
Food Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Maintain proper product handling, storage, and rotation procedures.
- Conduct routine cleanliness and safety inspections within the department.
- Ensure associates follow company policies and operational procedures.
Inventory and Financial Management
- Assist with ordering and inventory control processes.
- Monitor sales, shrink, and department expenses.
- Support labor scheduling efforts to align staffing with business needs.
- Help achieve department sales and profitability goals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous bakery, food service, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Basic math and inventory management knowledge.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Food safety certification may be required based on company policy.

- Ability to work in refrigerated, freezer, and production environments.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
- Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
