The posting

Generic Prescription Drug Purchasing Manager

Remote, United States | Eastern Time Zone Preferred, but open Base Salary: $110,000 to $160,000

Absolute Requirements

Applicants must have direct experience purchasing finished-dose generic prescription drugs from pharmaceutical manufacturers for resale or distribution.

Qualified candidates must have:

  • At least 3 years of direct generic prescription drug purchasing experience with a pharmaceutical wholesaler, distributor, generic purchasing organization, or GPO.
  • Personally negotiated pricing, purchasing agreements, or supply contracts with manufacturers of finished-dose generic prescription drugs.
  • Established commercial relationships with generic prescription drug manufacturers.
  • Experience identifying and sourcing commercially available generic prescription products.

This is a buying-side position, not pharmaceutical sales or general procurement.

Experience purchasing APIs, raw materials, ingredients, packaging, clinical supplies, or manufacturing equipment does not qualify. Manufacturer-side pharmaceutical sales experience alone does not qualify.

The Opportunity

AlediumHR is recruiting for a growing pharmaceutical company expanding its generic prescription drug portfolio and government business.

The company is seeking an experienced Generic Prescription Drug Purchasing Manager. Professionals currently working as Generic Rx Category Managers, Generic Pharmaceuticals Buyers, or in comparable generic prescription purchasing positions are encouraged to apply.

This position requires someone who knows the generic Rx manufacturer market, has established commercial relationships, and can personally identify and negotiate new product supply opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify commercially available finished-dose generic prescription products suitable for government distribution.
  • Establish and expand direct relationships with generic drug manufacturers.
  • Negotiate pricing, purchasing terms, and supply agreements with manufacturers.
  • Identify products that may require changes to sourcing or manufacturing arrangements to meet Trade Agreements Act (TAA) requirements.
  • Evaluate product availability, manufacturer capabilities, and commercial opportunities.
  • Work directly with company leadership to bring new products into the portfolio.

Preferred Experience

  • Generic Rx purchasing experience with organizations such as McKesson, Cardinal Health, Cencora, Red Oak Sourcing, ClarusONE, or comparable pharmaceutical wholesalers and purchasing groups.
  • Familiarity with VA, Department of Defense, or other government pharmaceutical purchasing channels.
  • Knowledge of TAA compliance and country-of-origin requirements.
  • Experience evaluating generic pharmaceutical product portfolios and negotiating new manufacturer partnerships.

The Right Candidate

An experienced generic pharmaceutical buyer who is comfortable working directly with manufacturers, negotiating agreements, and developing new business opportunities.

The company is looking for someone motivated to build and expand a pharmaceutical portfolio, not simply oversee an existing purchasing operation.

Compensation: $110,000 to $160,000 base salary, depending on directly relevant experience.

Location: Remote within the United States. Eastern Time Zone preferred, but open based on experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
