Job Description Summary

Job Description

ROLE

The Patient Engagement & Advocacy Engagement Manager will lead execution teams across multiple projects and will lead client engagements, including Business Development activities, in alignment with Partners, Principals and Managing Partners. The role places patient engagement at the centre of client work. This means making sure the voices, experiences and priorities of patients, caregivers and patient organisations shape the strategies and solutions we develop.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented and organized, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. They should have enough technical skill to own and independently execute full projects and proposals, and a real commitment to patient-centricity in life sciences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Execution / Billability (~65%):

  • Independently lead execution teams and deliver projects with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Guide teams in prioritizing critical client issues and turning them into actionable, client-focused solutions and strategies.
  • Support and lead the team in all client interactions.
  • Ensure the quality, timeliness and accuracy of complex deliverables.
  • Understand and anticipate potential issues or challenges arising from the initial “problem”, and communicate them effectively to the project team and senior roles.
  • Nurture and encourage teams to consider out-of-the-box solutions to client issues.
  • Design and lead patient engagement activities across the product lifecycle, such as patient advisory boards, patient and caregiver interviews, patient journey mapping, and co-creation workshops. Use these to inform clinical development, evidence generation, market access and commercial strategies.
  • Translate patient insights into actionable recommendations, for example on patient-centric trial design, patient-relevant endpoints and PROs, patient input to HTA submissions, and patient support programs.
  • Make sure patient engagement activities follow ethical, legal and compliance standards. This covers informed consent, data privacy (e.g., GDPR), fair-market-value compensation, and the relevant industry codes of practice.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the life sciences and healthcare industry, including the patient advocacy landscape, and broad knowledge of related consulting methodologies. Build this through consulting engagements and formal and informal training programs.
  • Provide oversight and direction to staff in line with the organization’s policies and procedures, vision, mission statement and values.

Business Development / Corporate Initiatives (~30%):

  • Support Partners in developing successful proposals, and actively support the full business development effort, from lead generation (passive role) to closing (active role).
  • Nurture existing client relationships, including through thought leadership initiatives.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with patient advocacy groups, patient organisations and patient experts, so that Alira Health can bring authentic patient perspectives to client engagements.
  • Build Alira Health’s presence and reputation as a trusted advisor in life sciences consulting.
  • Support firm development activities by contributing to recruiting, knowledge management, technology systems and related functions.
  • Proactively mentor, coach and share subject matter expertise with others to grow Alira Health’s collective knowledge and its ability to deliver differentiated solutions to clients.

Thought Leadership (~10%):

  • Attend specialized conferences and business forums, including patient advocacy and patient engagement events, to engage and build relationships with clients and patient communities.
  • Actively contribute to the development and refinement of the relevant Service Line offering, including patient engagement methodologies and best practices, integrated into communication activities and/or marketing plans for customers.
  • Contribute to publications, white papers and presentations that advance patient-centric approaches in life sciences.
  • Proactively mentor, coach and share expertise with others to grow Alira Health’s collective knowledge and its ability to deliver differentiated solutions to clients.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 6+ years of professional experience in management consulting, private equity, life sciences companies or health technology assessment (HTA) agencies.
  • Hands-on experience designing and running patient engagement initiatives (e.g., advisory boards, patient research, advocacy partnerships) is strongly preferred.
  • Graduate degree with an excellent track record in Life Sciences, Business, Economics or Engineering. Advanced degrees (PhD, specialized Master’s in Life Sciences, MBA or similar) are a plus.
  • Experience managing large teams efficiently.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCES & SOFT SKILLS

  • Ability to understand complex data, convey it clearly, and extract client-relevant information for decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate with empathy and in plain language with patients, caregivers and patient organisations, while balancing their perspectives with client objectives.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities with a positive, “can-do” attitude, while delivering high quality on tight timelines.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve unstructured or ambiguous problems.
  • Proven project management skills, including client interaction, full execution of deliverables, and clear communication and negotiation.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to sell ideas effectively to internal and external stakeholders, and strong interpersonal skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to coach and develop staff, including goal setting, feedback and performance development.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a less structured, collaborative environment and enjoys working in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Another language is a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
