Job Description
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the administration, performance, security, and continued improvement of the organization’s enterprise infrastructure. This position manages complex server, storage, backup, virtualization, email, and cloud environments while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and system optimization. The Senior Systems Engineer also serves as a technical leader, supporting IT staff, implementing best practices, and helping align infrastructure solutions with evolving business needs.
Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Manage enterprise server, storage, virtualization, backup, and email environments.
- Support cloud services with a focus on security, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor system health and performance, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and conduct capacity planning.
- Develop automation solutions using scripting and DevOps tools to streamline system processes and deployments.
- Lead disaster recovery and business continuity efforts to ensure system availability and data protection.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices, security hardening, monitoring, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Research, evaluate, and deploy new technologies that support organizational and business needs.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to IT staff and promote infrastructure best practices.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, system configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement effective technology solutions.
- Provide advanced technical support for software, hardware, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Travel as needed, work varied shifts including weekends and holidays, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or IT infrastructure management; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Advanced experience with Windows Server, Linux, enterprise storage, backup solutions, and email platforms such as Exchange and Microsoft 365.
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud and hybrid-cloud infrastructure strategies.
- Experience with enterprise backup technologies such as Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, or similar solutions.
- Experience with virtualization technologies including VMware and Hyper-V.
- Advanced scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, system hardening, endpoint security, data protection, and email security protocols including DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
- Experience with performance monitoring, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and system automation tools.
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps
- Administrator, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or ITIL are preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to provide technical leadership and work effectively across teams.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in varying environments, travel as required, and work varied schedules.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required gaming licensure and a valid driver’s license.
