The posting

Junior through Senior Level | Product Assembly Full-time, hourly | On-site in Glen Cove, NY | $25–$35 per hour

Allied Maker builds lighting by hand as a practice. Every fixture that leaves our Glen Cove facility has been assembled, tested, and finished by a person who understood what they were making and why it mattered. We're growing the team of people who do that work.

Allied Maker is seeking Product Technicians to build our decorative lighting fixtures with precision, care, and consistency.

This is a hands-on production role focused on assembling finished products from individual components, hardware, electrical parts, and technical documentation. We are hiring across experience levels, from mechanically capable people who can be trained in our products and processes to highly experienced technicians who can independently build complex fixtures, troubleshoot issues, and help raise the standard of the team.

The right person likes making physical things, works carefully with their hands, understands that details matter, and takes pride in producing a finished object that is both technically correct and beautifully made.

What You'll Do

  • Assemble decorative lighting fixtures from components, hardware, wiring, and subassemblies
  • Follow drawings, work instructions, specifications, and established assembly procedures
  • Fit, fasten, align, wire, and finish components accurately
  • Inspect parts before and during assembly and identify anything that does not look or function correctly
  • Maintain high standards for fit, finish, cleanliness, and overall product quality
  • Use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and assembly equipment safely and correctly
  • Organize your work efficiently and complete products within expected production times
  • Perform basic electrical assembly and wiring as appropriate to the product
  • Test completed fixtures and confirm they meet quality and functional requirements
  • Communicate missing parts, discrepancies, defects, or production problems before they create downstream issues
  • Protect finished materials and components throughout the build process
  • Maintain an orderly, professional workstation and production environment
  • Work collaboratively with production, engineering, quality, and other manufacturing teams

Junior Product Technician

A Junior Product Technician may have limited direct lighting experience but demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly.

At this level, you will:

  • Learn Allied Maker products, construction methods, and quality standards
  • Build standard fixtures and subassemblies using established instructions
  • Develop proficiency with tools, hardware, electrical components, and production processes
  • Learn to read drawings and understand how individual components relate to the finished product
  • Work under the guidance of more experienced technicians while progressively becoming more independent
  • Develop both assembly quality and production speed over time

Prior experience in assembly, fabrication, electrical work, cabinetry, millwork, automotive work, metalworking, manufacturing, construction, or another hands-on trade is helpful but not required for someone with exceptional mechanical ability.

Senior Product Technician

A Senior Product Technician is an experienced assembler who can take ownership of a product build with limited supervision.

At this level, you will:

  • Independently assemble standard and complex lighting fixtures
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and assembly documentation
  • Determine efficient build sequences and anticipate assembly challenges
  • Diagnose fit, hardware, wiring, or component issues during production
  • Recognize when something is incorrect even when the problem is not explicitly identified in the documentation
  • Resolve routine assembly problems and escalate engineering or quality issues appropriately
  • Consistently produce work that meets Allied Maker's expectations for quality and production speed
  • Help train and support junior technicians
  • Share techniques and improvements that make assembly more reliable and efficient
  • Serve as a strong example of craftsmanship, organization, and accountability on the production floor

What We're Looking For

Successful Product Technicians typically have:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Attention to very small details
  • An intuitive understanding of how physical parts fit together
  • Comfort working with hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to follow technical instructions accurately
  • Ability to recognize when something looks, fits, or functions incorrectly
  • Patience when precision is required and urgency when production requires it
  • Good organization and workstation discipline
  • Pride in craftsmanship and finished product quality
  • Reliability and personal accountability
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a production team

Experience with electrical wiring, lighting, mechanical assembly, manufacturing, metalwork, woodworking, fabrication, or similar trades is especially valuable.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position is not simply completing an assembly.

A strong Product Technician produces fixtures that are correct, consistent, clean, structurally sound, electrically sound, and beautifully finished while continually becoming faster and more efficient at building them.

The goal is craftsmanship without unnecessary slowness and productivity without sacrificing quality.

As technicians develop greater product knowledge, technical ability, speed, troubleshooting capability, and independence, there is a clear path from Junior Product Technician to Product Technician to Senior Product Technician.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $25–$35 per hour, based on level and experience (Junior Product Technician starting at $25/hour; Product Technician at $35/hour)
  • Full-time, hourly position, with overtime as needed to meet the production calendar
  • Medical insurance, 80% employer-paid
  • Dental and vision insurance, 100% employer-paid
  • 401(k), eligible after one year of employment
  • Pay reviewed as your skills, speed, and independence grow
  • A small team where your contribution is visible and valued, in a company that is growing

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • On-site at Allied Maker Studio in Glen Cove, NY
  • Sit/stand bench work in a purpose-built manufacturing environment
  • Requires fine motor dexterity and the ability to work at a bench for extended periods
  • Must be reasonably fit and able to lift 20–40 lbs
  • Closed-toe footwear required in shop areas
