The posting
We are looking for a Senior Estimator to lead estimating and bid development for Insulated Metal Panel (IMP) projects within a specialty construction subcontracting environment. AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of a client serving advanced manufacturing, mission-critical, and industrial construction markets. This role requires strong technical expertise and direct ownership of complex estimates, from reviewing bid documents and evaluating project scope to developing accurate pricing and submitting competitive proposals. Candidates based in Knoxville or East Tennessee are preferred, but remote work or relocation may be considered for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for commercial and industrial projects involving Insulated Metal Panel (IMP) systems.
- Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and bid packages to determine project scope, installation requirements, and pricing considerations.
- Perform and validate detailed quantity takeoffs and calculate labor, material, equipment, and installation costs.
- Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and cost risks that could affect estimate accuracy and project profitability.
- Review supplier and subcontractor quotations, validate pricing, and resolve discrepancies before finalizing estimates.
- Develop comprehensive bid proposals with clearly defined pricing, scope inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions.
- Communicate with general contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and address bid-related questions.
- Maintain accurate estimating records, cost data, and bid documentation to support consistent estimating practices.
- Review estimates for completeness, accuracy, and competitiveness before final submission.
- Provide technical estimating guidance and pricing recommendations to support bid strategy and profitable project acquisition.
Requirements
- 8+ years of direct construction estimating or closely related project management experience, with substantial Insulated Metal Panel (IMP) estimating experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of independently developing and owning complex construction estimates and competitive bids.
- Experience with advanced manufacturing, mission-critical facilities, or industrial construction projects is strongly preferred.
- Advanced ability to interpret construction drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and bid documents.
- Extensive experience with quantity takeoffs, labor and material pricing, installation costs, and construction cost analysis.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and related cost estimation tools.
- Strong commercial judgment and analytical skills, with the ability to identify scope gaps, evaluate cost risks, and develop accurate pricing strategies.
- Direct estimating or project cost ownership is required; general commercial construction experience without relevant estimating responsibility or comparable specialty construction experience will not be sufficient.
Benefits
Compensation: $90,000–$125,000 annually, based on experience. Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs.
