About The Role

Help us to extend our reach!

We are here for anyone affected by dementia and are keen to reach people in all communities, including those who may be more at risk of isolation through language, accessibility needs, identity or background.

You’ll play a crucial role in building and strengthening community links and raising awareness of the services we have available. You’ll take part in events and talk to groups to raise awareness of dementia and to identify people affected by dementia who can share their dementia story with their wider community as well as with us. You’ll also signpost people to access our services.

This flexible, community-based volunteering opportunity is ideal for someone who is actively involved in local groups, clubs, faith organisations, activities, or community networks and would like to help improve support for people affected by dementia.

As a Community Link Volunteer based in Great Malvern, you will help raise awareness of dementia and the Alzheimer's Society by engaging with local communities, sharing information, and developing relationships with local organisations. You will signpost people living with dementia, their carers, and families to Alzheimer's Society services and other relevant local support.

Volunteers may attend information stands, community events, cafés, support groups, and local talks to provide information, promote available support, and connect people to services. By identifying opportunities for partnership working, you will help strengthen local support networks, improve referral pathways, and increase access to support for those affected by dementia.

Volunteers may also have opportunities to support community projects and initiatives that promote dementia awareness, inclusion, and stronger local connections across Malvern and the surrounding area.

Time Commitment: Flexible, typically a couple of hours per week, with opportunities to support events during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Skills and Experience

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Confident engaging with individuals, groups, and community organisations.

• Active within local community groups, clubs, activities, faith organisations, or networks.

• Knowledge of, or connections within, the local community.

• Ability to provide information and confidently signpost people to support services and resources.

• Interest in identifying opportunities for joined-up working and developing relationships between community groups, organisations, and services to improve support for people affected by dementia.

• An interest in community engagement, partnership working, and developing dementia-friendly communities.

• Additional languages are welcomed but not essential.

Previous experience of supporting people affected by dementia would be an advantage; however, this is not essential. Full training, resources, and ongoing support will be provided to help volunteers feel confident and supported in their role.

Interested? To apply for this role please click on the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the page.

You’ll be great for the role if:

  • You have a confident and friendly approach and are committed to including people from all backgrounds, treating them with dignity and as individuals
  • You have a good knowledge and understanding of your local community
  • You have excellent communication skills and are able to talk to a variety of audiences. The ability to communicate in languages other than English is not essential but may be helpful.
  • You are over the age of 18

About Alzheimer's Society

Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime.

At Alzheimer's Society, we're the UK's leading dementia charity and the only one to tackle all aspects of dementia by giving help and hope to people living with dementia today and in the future. We give vital support to people facing the most frightening times of their lives, while also funding groundbreaking research and campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
