The posting

At Amazon, it’s our goal to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online. To support our continued growth, we are looking for a Category Manager to join our Softlines team. The Softlines business group is one of Amazon's five core retail businesses, along with Hardlines, Consumables, Electronics and Entertainment. Softlines encompasses a vast and growing range of businesses in the fashion industry (including Apparel, Shoes, Jewellery, Watches and Luggage), building on all the things consumers love about Amazon to deliver a unique and compelling range of products.

This role is multi-faceted in nature, working cross functionally with various teams including marketing, finance, supply chain, Amazon Ads, and our external supplier partners. As a Category Manager, you will be a passionate advocate for our customers and develop a category based on strong relationships with our supplier partners. You will be successful in the role by building long term, strategic relationships with our existing suppliers and also engaging with new brands to help drive incremental growth opportunities for them on Amazon.com.au. You will be an effective negotiator and act as a Subject Matter Expert in a particular field and play a role coaching and developing members of the team and peers across the business.

An Amazon Category Manager also complements their investments in relationships and people with a sharp, analytical mind: being comfortable with a suite of metrics across multiple KPIs is a must, likewise is holding an affinity with complex analysis and making data-driven decisions. Adding structure to processes, creating rigorous mechanisms and understanding operational flows will be part and parcel of your role.

We are looking for someone who: - Enjoys a high degree of ownership: this will include owning the category P&L, ranging decisions and expansion, driving operational efficiencies and becoming your team’s Subject Matter Expert in various topics. - Is a relationship-builder, developing trust and helping drive mutually beneficial outcomes for all stakeholders. - Can problem solve both individually and as a team; working backwards from the customer. - Can demonstrate strong organizational skills, effectively prioritizing tasks. - Can create an inclusive environment; actively seek diversity of thought. - Exhibits proficiency in using bespoke tools and systems, including an increasing use of AI.

Amazon values diverse experiences: experience in similar roles is beneficial but not required; diverse backgrounds are valued, and candidates with transferable skills are encouraged to apply, even if not all preferred qualifications listed in the job description are met. We are hiring beyond the Softlines business unit, so will be able to match your profile to the appropriate category as we go through the hiring process.

This position requires full-time in-office presence 5 days per week at our CBD location.

Key job responsibilities - Drive Category Strategy: Own end to end category performance, develop growth strategies, and make data-driven ranging decisions - Demand Forecasting: Create forecasts of demand based on multiple sources, including local sales history, other locale data, external market insights, and vendor feedback to inform strategic decision-making - Build Strategic Partnerships: Lead commercial negotiation and cultivate long term relationships with existing and potential supplier partners to create mutually beneficial growth opportunities - Pricing & Promotion: Shape pricing strategies that balance profitability with customer value. Partner with marketing teams to plan and execute impactful promotional events. - Analyse and Optimise: Dive deep into complex data to identify trends, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the customer experience - Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with marketing, finance, supply chain, and advertising teams to achieve holistic business objectives - Develop Team Capabilities: Act as a subject matter expert, coach colleagues, and contribute to team knowledge development

A day in the life Your focus centers on driving growth and optimization within your assigned fashion or fitness category. You might start your day reviewing overnight sales data and customer feedback to identify emerging trends, then move into a strategic planning session with your supplier partners to discuss upcoming product launches. Mid-morning, you could be analyzing promotional performance metrics to refine pricing strategies, followed by a cross-functional meeting with our marketing and supply chain teams to align on inventory needs for an upcoming campaign. You'll also dedicate time to mentoring team members, sharing category insights, and collaborating with colleagues across the business to solve complex challenges. Your work balances analytical deep-dives with relationship-building conversations that create mutually beneficial outcomes for Amazon, our partners, and our customers.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
