The posting

Are you passionate about building systems that power global commerce? AWS is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join a team at the heart of the AWS Invoicing organization—responsible for generating, delivering, and ensuring the compliance of invoices that AWS sends to customers around the world. Our systems process a significant share of AWS revenue, serve customers across dozens of countries, and are continually expanding with automation and new product capabilities.

As an SDE on this team, you'll design and build services that generate invoice documents, deliver them through email and APIs, and integrate with government tax and e-invoicing systems across the globe. You'll tackle problems spanning distributed systems, large-scale document rendering, and regulatory compliance—all operating at high scale and reliability.

You'll own features end to end: designing, implementing, testing, and operating the services you build. You'll collaborate with engineers, product managers, and compliance partners to turn complex regulatory requirements into reliable, maintainable systems. The problems are real, the impact is tangible, and you'll regularly ship work that matters to customers paying their AWS bills worldwide.

Key job responsibilities Write and ship production code — Develop, test, and deploy high-quality code for backend services that generate and deliver invoice documents (PDFs, emails, structured data) to AWS customers worldwide.

Own software components — Take ownership of well-defined components within the invoicing platform, such as a rendering module, a delivery workflow, or an integration adapter with a government tax portal. You'll be responsible for the quality, correctness, and operational health of your components.

Test thoroughly — Write unit tests, integration tests, and regression tests for your code. Validate invoice templates against thousands of test cases to ensure zero cosmetic defects or compliance issues in legal financial documents.

Debug and troubleshoot — Use logs, metrics, alarms, and debugging tools to identify and resolve software defects. Support team during on-call rotations by investigating service issues, responding to alerts, and driving incident resolution with guidance from senior engineers.

Deploy and operate software — Follow best practices for safe deployments across multiple environments. Monitor the health of services you contribute to and respond to operational issues to maintain high availability.

Participate in code reviews — Review teammates' code to find basic errors, improve readability, and learn team conventions. Incorporate feedback from code reviews on your own contributions to continuously improve code quality.

Learn and grow with guidance — Work on well-defined projects scoped by your manager and senior engineers. Actively seek feedback, learn system design approaches, and build your understanding of the team's distributed architecture and compliance domain over time.

Collaborate across the team — Partner with senior engineers, product managers, and compliance experts and tax PoCs across globe to understand requirements. Ask clarifying questions, communicate progress, and flag blockers early

About the team Our team sits within the AWS Invoicing organization and owns the end-to-end lifecycle of invoice artifacts—from creation to delivery to government reporting. Based in Seattle, we're a group of engineers who care deeply about reliability, compliance, and customer experience. Our systems generate invoices at scale, send delivery notifications, and report to tax authorities across many countries.

We're in an exciting growth phase: expanding e-invoicing to new countries, building a reusable invoicing platform for teams across Amazon, and investing in automation to streamline compliance work. We have a strong mix of senior and early-career engineers, and we actively invest in growing SDEs through mentorship, well-scoped projects, and a culture of learning.

We share knowledge openly, encourage engineers to research before they build, and give people room to experiment and turn what they learn into something the whole team benefits from. Whether you're drawn to distributed systems, document processing, international regulations, or applied AI, there's room here to explore and grow into the engineer you want to become.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
