The posting

Are you passionate about building software that operates at massive scale and directly impacts millions of customers? As a Software Development Engineer II at Amazon, you will design, build, and deliver features that solve real-world problems while shaping the technical direction of the systems you own. You will work across the full software development lifecycle — from understanding customer needs to deploying and operating production systems — and your contributions will have a meaningful effect on how customers experience our products.

This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on turning ambiguous problems into clear, well-designed solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners, mentor fellow engineers, and continuously raise the bar on code quality and operational excellence. If you are a self-starter who is curious, adaptable, and eager to grow your impact, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities - Design and implement software solutions across the full development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing operations, ensuring high-quality and maintainable code. - Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into scalable, well-documented technical solutions that balance short-term delivery with long-term extensibility. - Actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to teammates and coaching others on best practices for producing clean, reliable software. - Identify root causes of operational issues and drive permanent fixes, while continuously improving your team's operational processes and system reliability. - Evaluate new technologies and approaches, recommend adoption where appropriate, and contribute to design reviews that strengthen the overall architecture of your team's systems.

A day in the life You start the morning reviewing deployment metrics and triaging any operational alerts from overnight. By mid-morning, you are deep in a design discussion with teammates, whiteboarding a solution for a new feature that requires careful trade-offs between performance and maintainability. After lunch, you pair with a newer engineer on a code review, walking through patterns that improve readability and testability. Later, you push a feature increment to production and verify its behavior through automated tests and real-time dashboards.

About the team Our team is focused on building reliable, scalable software that directly serves Amazon's customers. We value collaboration, technical rigor, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Every engineer on the team has the opportunity to influence our technical roadmap and mentor teammates in an inclusive, supportive environment.

We are investing in the systems and tools that will power the next generation of customer experiences, and we are looking for engineers who want to help shape that future.

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience - 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience - 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience - Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field - Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
