The posting

Join us in the fight to change the rules governing the economy, take back our democracy from Wall Street and Big Tech, and make finance work for us, not against us. Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund (AFREF) is seeking a Senior Policy Analyst or Associate Director for Corporate Governance and Finance to lead our work in this area.

AFREF played a leading role in winning passage of the Dodd Frank financial reform law and the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and we are driving the fight for broader transformations of the financial system to advance economic, racial, and social justice, and to combat climate change. Right now, we are exposing the risky circular financing fueling the AI bubble, and calling for a dramatic departure from the failed bailout policies of the past should it burst. AFREF’s staff develops policy and strategies in collaboration with a coalition of more than 200 consumer, civil rights, labor, community-based, and other organizations, along with academics and policy experts.

The Senior Policy Analyst/Associate Director portfolio will include work on corporate accountability, corporate finance, and corporate governance. This role will lead efforts to fight back against and elevate alternatives to corporate extraction, speculation, and increasing inequality. It will focus on making the rules that shape corporate and investment decision-making align more with the interests of workers, communities, and a more just and sustainable economy. It will also support efforts to increase workers’ power to shape the uses of their retirement funds. Tracking and understanding developments related to pension funds and asset managers and maintaining relationships with labor partners and investor advocates are key elements of the role.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of AFREF policy priorities on corporate governance and corporate finance to advance our economic and racial justice goals
  • Writing and managing policy memos, regulatory comment letters, reports, white papers, fact sheets, etc. that make the case for AFREF positions
  • Writing and editing op-eds, commentaries, and other materials to communicate about AFREF priorities with a broad range of audiences
  • Overseeing the launch, implementation, and oversight of policy projects, including collaborating with and contributing to the research program
  • Representing AFREF at meetings with regulators, legislators, and subject area experts, as well as with allies and partners, and planning and managing meetings with senior policymakers
  • Leading and collaborating with AFREF staff and coalition partners to develop and implement advocacy strategies to advance our policy goals
  • Providing policy analysis and research support for grassroots partners
  • Collaborating with AFREF campaign, communications, and digital staff and with coalition partners to develop and drive narratives frames and messages to advance our policy priorities and approach
  • Communicating AFREF’s perspectives and policy positions to the press in collaboration with our communications staff
  • Explaining AFREF policy issues to nonspecialists and making connections to broader economic, racial, and social justice work
  • Identifying and developing relationships with partners, policy experts, academics, and practitioners who can contribute to our understanding or collaborate with us in advancing our policy goals
  • Contributing to development work, including helping to draft proposals and grant reports and maintaining relationships with funders in your area

AFREF is committed to a workplace that reflects the diversity of America defined broadly and where the talent, skills, and uniqueness of each staff member are respected. We are committed to a policy of equity for all employees and to equal opportunity for all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, family responsibilities, or disability.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
