Position Title: Custodian(Housekeeper) - Retail Reports To: Retail Supervisor Department: Retail FLSA Status: Nonexempt POSITION SUMMARY America’s Thrift is currently seeking Custodians! We are looking for self-starters who are eager to join a company committed to partnering with charities to make a positive impact in our communities. Successful candidates will place a high priority on maintaining store cleanliness and delivering exceptional customer service. We are specifically seeking organized individuals who are self-motivated, excel in time management, and can adapt seamlessly to day-to-day responsibilities. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals to merge their passion for customer service with the opportunity to give back to their communities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine cleaning, sanitizing, and housekeeping duties throughout the store to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for customers and team members. Utilize cleaning carts and other equipment to safely transport cleaning supplies and materials throughout the facility. Properly label, store, handle, and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with company policies and established safety procedures. Clean and disinfect assigned areas, including restrooms, break rooms, sales floors, loading docks, processing areas, and other operational spaces. Clean, wipe, and dust high-touch surfaces, fixtures, equipment, and other designated areas throughout the store. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors to ensure cleanliness and reduce potential safety hazards. Monitor and replenish restroom supplies, including paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other necessary items. Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash and other waste from designated areas throughout the facility. Identify and promptly report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, safety hazards, spills, or other facility issues to management. Maintain cleaning supplies, equipment, and work areas in an organized and sanitary condition. Follow all company safety, sanitation, and housekeeping standards while performing assigned duties. Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with customers, donors, and fellow team members. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management to support store operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience preferred. Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred. Able to understand and execute company policies and procedures. Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong ability to prioritize. Able to accurately keep records and communicate progress to management. On-the-job training provided.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the workday on hard surfaces, including tile and concrete.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, including trash, cleaning supplies, and other materials. Must be able to push and pull up to 25 pounds, including cleaning carts, equipment, and supplies. Ability to regularly bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and reach at waist and overhead levels while performing cleaning and sanitation duties. Must have the ability to climb and maintain balance when using approved ladders or equipment, as required to clean or access elevated areas. Ability to safely handle cleaning supplies, equipment, trash, and properly labeled cleaning chemicals in accordance with established safety procedures. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity and hand/arm coordination to sweep, mop, wipe, dust, scrub, stock supplies, empty trash containers, and operate cleaning equipment. Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, and upper-body movements associated with routine cleaning and sanitation tasks. Must have sufficient vision to identify spills, debris, cleanliness concerns, safety hazards, labels, and other conditions requiring attention. Must have sufficient hearing and communication ability to interact with customers and team members and respond to instructions, announcements, and potential safety concerns. Ability to work in a retail and operational environment that may include exposure to dust, dirt, odors, cleaning products, and varying noise levels. Must be able to work in indoor areas with semi-controlled temperatures and occasionally in outdoor areas with varying weather and temperature conditions. Ability to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform cleaning and housekeeping duties throughout the scheduled shift. Must be able to work regular and weekend hours, with the ability to work evenings and holidays as business needs require.
