Position Title: Team Member - Retail Reports To: Retail Supervisor Department: Retail FLSA Status: Nonexempt POSITION SUMMARY The Team Member - Retail plays an essential role in creating a welcoming, organized, and positive shopping experience for America’s Thrift customers. This position supports daily retail operations by providing exceptional customer service, assisting customers with merchandise, operating the cash register, maintaining an organized and visually appealing sales floor, and ensuring merchandise is presented according to company standards. The Team Member - Retail is expected to work with a sense of urgency, demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork, and contribute to achieving store sales, productivity, and customer service goals. Successful team members are dependable, energetic, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment. This position also serves as an ambassador for America’s Thrift by demonstrating the organization’s Core Values and supporting its mission within the communities we serve. To meet the needs of store operations, this position requires flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including mid-shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Warmly greets and engages with customers upon entry
Promptly responds to customer inquiries and requests
Assists customers in locating merchandise throughout the store
Attends promptly to cash register calls and operates the register as necessary
Approaches tasks with a strong sense of urgency
Adheres to proper procedures for handling claims merchandise
Maintains a well-organized and visually appealing sales floor
Possesses knowledge of products, discounts, and the company's mission
Stays informed about all aspects of store operations
Completes any additional duties as assigned by management
Other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Degree, GED or equivalent work experiences preferred Must be at least 16 years of age Displays excellent sales and customer service skills through interactions both in person and on the phone Ability to anticipate customers’ needs and recommend merchandise Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the retail space. Ability to count and handle money Ability to operate cash register Must be able to meet physical demands On-the-job training provided Ability to work a rotating schedule (mid-shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces, including tile and concrete, for prolonged periods throughout the work shift. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach at or above shoulder level, and perform repetitive movements while stocking, organizing, and handling merchandise. Ability to frequently lift and carry merchandise or other materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to frequently push and pull merchandise, racks, carts, or other materials requiring up to 25 pounds of force. Ability to safely climb and maintain balance when using approved ladders or step equipment, as required to access merchandise or supplies. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, grasp, feel, scan, sort, tag, and otherwise manipulate merchandise, cash, equipment, and supplies. Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with operating a cash register, handling merchandise, stocking, and maintaining the sales floor. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, donors, team members, and management and to hear communications and other sounds necessary for safe store operations. Visual ability sufficient to operate a cash register, read merchandise tags and signage, identify products, handle currency, and safely navigate the store. Ability to perform physical activities at a consistent pace in a fast-paced retail environment throughout the scheduled shift. Ability to work primarily indoors in a retail environment with semi-controlled temperatures, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather and temperature conditions as business needs require. Ability to work a rotating and flexible schedule, including mid-shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
