The annual base salary range for this position in California is $135,000 to $180,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.

We are seeking an experienced Communications Executive to lead strategic communications efforts for OCVIBE, a large-scale mixed-use real estate development transforming 100-acres around the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. This role will help oversee district corporate communications, media relations, storytelling, and strategic messaging tied to one of the region’s most high-profile mixed-use developments. The ideal candidate is an experienced strategist with deep relationships across all media, including business, real estate, hospitality, lifestyle, and consumer, and has a proven track record shaping narratives and securing media coverage for complex real estate, placemaking, hospitality, or mixed-use projects.

This position requires a communications leader who understands how to translate development, architecture, leasing, operations, culture, dining, entertainment, and community impact into compelling stories that resonate with media, stakeholders, partners, and the larger community.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and lead integrated communications strategies aligned with overall business, development, marketing, and leasing objectives
  • Shape and manage the overarching narrative for the development across corporate, consumer, and stakeholder audiences
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on communications opportunities, positioning, reputational considerations, and industry visibility
  • Partner cross-functionally with development, leasing, operations, marketing, partnerships, hospitality, and community engagement teams to ensure alignment across messaging and initiatives
  • Lead communications planning around major milestones including groundbreaking announcements, openings, partnerships, tenant announcements, activations, and community initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to position the development and leadership team within broader conversations around real estate, placemaking, hospitality, culture, entertainment, and urban development
  • Develop executive thought leadership strategies, including speaking opportunities, panel participation, contributed content, and media interviews
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive projects, and evolving media narratives relevant to mixed-use development and destination placemaking

Media Relations & Publicity

  • Serve as the lead media relations contact for the development and maintain strong relationships with business, real estate, architecture/design, hospitality, industry/trade, and lifestyle reporters
  • Proactively pitch stories and secure earned media coverage across local, regional, national, trade, and consumer outlets
  • Develop media strategies that elevate awareness of the development’s vision, offerings, partnerships, cultural programming, and economic impact
  • Draft and oversee press releases, media alerts, executive talking points and social media posts, briefing documents, Q&As, fact sheets, newsletters, and media pitches
  • Coordinate media interviews, press tours, site visits, launch events, and experiential media opportunities
  • Manage inbound media inquiries and provide strategic guidance during sensitive or high-profile situations
  • Oversee publicity efforts surrounding openings, announcements, events, partnerships, and experiential activations
  • Collaborate and manage external PR agencies and consultants to ensure cohesive messaging, timely execution, and measurable results

Digital, Social, & Creative Media Integration

  • Work alongside creative, content, and larger marketing team to shape social-first storytelling opportunities tied to construction progress, community impact, culinary experiences, entertainment programming, and district activations
  • Ensure communications strategies are fully integrated across all earned, owned, shared, and paid channels
  • Collaborate on content strategies that translate development milestones, placemaking initiatives, events, openings, and partnerships into compelling digital narratives
  • Ensure consistency of messaging, tone, and positioning across media relations, social content, website copy, newsletters, and executive communications
  • Support the development of integrated campaign rollouts that combine publicity, influencer engagement, experiential storytelling, and digital content distribution
  • Monitor digital and social sentiment, media coverage, and audience engagement trends to inform communications strategy and identify opportunities for proactive storytelling
  • Coordinate with agency partners, influencers, tenants, partners, and brand collaborators to extend reach and maintain message alignment across platforms
  • Help develop crisis communications protocols and rapid-response strategies for digital and social channels

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of communications, public relations, or media relations experience
  • Significant experience in commercial and residential real estate, mixed-use development, hospitality, destination marketing, or placemaking projects required
  • Experience advising executives and senior leadership teams
  • Demonstrated success securing top-tier earned media coverage and managing high-profile announcements
  • Experience supporting projects in active development and construction phases
  • Strong existing relationships with business, commercial real estate, hospitality, architecture/design, and lifestyle media
  • Familiarity with Southern California and national real estate/business media landscapes preferred
  • Combination of agency and in-house communications experience a plus
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and strategic communication skills
  • Deep understanding of real estate development, consumer positioning, and integrated storytelling
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-profile environment
  • Proactive relationship builder with media, community leaders, and key partners
  • Analytical thinker capable of translating media data into actionable insights
  • Creative problem-solver who thrives in dynamic settings
  • Strong commitment to excellence, collaboration, and integrity in all communications

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
