Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
About the Role
The Senior Product Engineer is the primary electrical design engineering presence on the production floor, bridging the gap between design intent and production execution. The role sits within Platform Engineering and is based primarily at the production site, dispositioning nonconformances and Material Review Board (MRB) actions for electrical systems and sub-assemblies, resolving design questions in real time, and closing the loop between production and design so that issues get root caused and fixed at the source. To hold that authority credibly, this role also contributes to upstream electrical design - architecture, analysis, schematics, and design reviews - so they have the depth needed to make sound disposition decisions on the floor. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring strong technical judgement in electrical and power systems engineering, the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced production environment, and the credibility to influence both design engineers and production teams. You will be expected to drive systemic improvements, cutting repeat nonconformances through changes to the design and documentation, as well as resolving individual issues.
Key Responsibilities
Production Floor Engineering Support
- Serve as the primary electrical design engineering point of contact on the production floor for assigned programs and product lines
- Represent the design authority at Material Review Board (MRB) for electrical systems, working with Quality and Manufacturing to minimise production hold time without compromising product safety and integrity
- Resolve production process-blockers, design ambiguities, and schematic/drawing interpretation issues in real time, exercising engineering judgement within defined authority boundaries
- Provide rapid-response engineering support and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to Production, Quality, and Test teams for electrical nonconformance resolution, use-as-is/rework/scrap decisions, and repair dispositions
- Identify and escalate systemic electrical design issues to core Design Engineering teams with clear problem statements, data, and recommended corrective actions
- Perform detailed electrical calculations, simulations, and analysis to support MRB dispositions, deviation requests, and use-as-is justifications (e.g. power budgets, thermal derating, circuit analysis, connector/harness assessments)
Electrical Design Contribution
- Contribute to the design, development and integration of electrical systems and subsystems, maintaining the technical depth needed to hold disposition authority on the production floor
- Perform detailed electrical calculations, simulations and analysis (circuit analysis, power budgets, thermal derating, EMC/EMI) to support both design decisions and MRB dispositions
- Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and contribute to system-level trade studies
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, and systems engineering to integrate electrical systems into the vehicle
Design Intent Translation & Multi-Site Support
- Support the translation of electrical design intent into production-executable work across multiple product versions, configurations, and manufacturing sites
- Support the stand-up and ramp of production at new or expanding manufacturing sites, ensuring electrical design engineering knowledge transfers effectively
- Raise and implement engineering changes to correct production issues that originate in the electrical design, through the Anduril configuration management and change process
- Feed production observations, failure modes and DFM/DFA opportunities back into Platform Electrical design work through structured feedback, prioritised using data
Design to Production Interface
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on work instruction (WI) development, tooling validation, and First Article Inspection (FAI) activities for electrical assemblies, communicating the design intent and acceptance criteria
- Own the resolution of EBOM discrepancies found in production for electrical assemblies, and give engineering input to Configuration Management and Manufacturing Engineering on PLM workflows, BOM reconciliation and work instruction tooling
- Identify patterns across electrical nonconformances, test failures and build issues, and lead engineering root cause analysis and design corrective action implementation
- Collaborate on the improvement of key tool and functional interfaces (PLM workflows, digital work instructions, BOM reconciliation) that impact design-to-production efficiency
- Support the development of scalable frameworks for multi-site production: configuration management alignment, site-specific work instruction adaptation, and cross-site lesson-learned sharing
- Build repeatable playbooks for standing up production of new product variants, reducing ramp time and first-unit defects at each additional site
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Metrics
- Maintain strong working relationships with Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, and Program Management to ensure aligned priorities and rapid issue resolution
- Collate and drive corrective actions on design-originated production issues, providing data-backed prioritisation to core Design Engineering teams
- Participate in Production readiness reviews, design reviews (P&DFMEA, DFM/A/T) and engineering change assessments
Key Competencies & Attributes
- Engineering Judgement: Technical depth in electrical and power systems combined with production pragmatism - able to make sound engineering decisions under time pressure without over-engineering solutions
- Design Authority Integrity: You protect product safety and integrity under schedule pressure, understand the limits of your delegated authority and escalate when you should
- Cross-Functional Influence: Credibility with both design engineers and production operators; able to speak both languages and bridge communication gaps
- Autonomy & Initiative: Comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities in a fast-moving production environment; able to self-direct and prioritise without constant direction
- Systems Thinking: Thinks beyond individual issue resolution to identify patterns, root causes, and scalable solutions that prevent recurrence across sites and variants
- Communication: Clear, concise technical communication - written dispositions, engineering reports, and presentations to leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in a senior role within defence, tech or any fast-paced environment, driving successful electrical engineering projects from concept to market launch
- Expertise in electrical engineering principles, techniques, and technologies, with a track record of delivering innovative solutions
- Proficiency in using industry-standard electrical design and simulation software
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor junior engineers while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation
- Strong time management and organisational abilities, with a demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and adapt to diverse and evolving challenges
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with fast paced environment best practices, including agility, adaptability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a NV2 Australian Government Security Clearance
- Demonstrated hands-on experience working on or directly supporting a production floor
- Understanding of Material Review Board (MRB) processes, nonconformance management, and engineering disposition (use-as-is, rework, scrap, return to vendor)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing electrical and power systems for unmanned vehicles
- Experience in the subsea or maritime domain
- Experience working on defence programs and familiarity with current Defence standards
- Previous experience as a Product, Sustaining, Liaison or Production Support Engineer with delegated design or disposition authority
- Experience with first article inspection (e.g. AS9102) and production test development
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and/or IPC-A-610
