Job Description

Arlington Public Schools is seeking a Graduation Coach to provide targeted academic monitoring, individualized support, and intervention services to students at Arlington Community High School (ACHS) who are working toward meeting graduation requirements. This hourly position will focus on supporting students within the four-year Federal Graduation Indicator (FGI) cohort, with an emphasis on improving academic progress, addressing barriers to graduation, and increasing on-time graduation rates.

The Graduation Coach will collaborate closely with school counselors, teachers, administrators, students, and families to identify students who may be at risk of not graduating and develop individualized strategies to support their successful completion of high school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor the academic progress, course completion, credit accumulation, and graduation status of students within the four-year FGI cohort.
  • Review student academic records, transcripts, and graduation requirements to identify students who may be at risk of not graduating on time.
  • Develop and maintain student progress-monitoring tools, spreadsheets, and tracking systems to document academic performance, graduation readiness, and intervention efforts.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify academic concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions and support services.
  • Meet regularly with identified students to review academic progress, establish goals, address challenges, and develop actionable plans toward graduation.
  • Communicate with families, as appropriate, regarding student progress, graduation requirements, and available academic supports.
  • Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic performance to identify potential barriers to successful course completion.
  • Assist students in understanding Virginia high school graduation requirements, including credit and diploma requirements.
  • Provide regular progress updates and reports to school administration and counseling staff, highlighting student needs, intervention outcomes, and progress toward graduation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with APS policies and applicable student privacy requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support student achievement and graduation outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students, particularly students who may be at risk of not graduating.
  • Knowledge of Virginia high school graduation requirements, diploma options, and credit accumulation.
  • Experience using student information systems, preferably Synergy, to access and monitor student academic records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Drive, and spreadsheets for data tracking, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff, students, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple student cases, and follow through on identified interventions.

Compensation and Work Schedule

  • This is an hourly, as-needed position compensated at $60.00 per hour.
  • Work hours will be flexible and coordinated with school administration to accommodate student schedules and program needs. The position may require daytime, evening, and occasional weekend availability.
  • The number of hours worked will be determined by student needs and approved by school administration.

Please Note: Arlington Public Schools receives a high volume of applications for many positions. As a result, only candidates who are identified as meeting the qualifications and whose experience and skills best align with the needs of the school, department, or office may be contacted for an interview. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
