Job Description: Join Hitachi Energy and become part of a global team driving innovation in the energy sector. As a PO, you will join a product team developing advanced energy applications for performance‑critical systems, including algorithms that determine the state of electrical power networks. You will work closely with software developers, scientists from Hitachi Energy Research, and Product Management to deliver smarter, greener, and more reliable energy solutions. How you’ll make an impact: Supports Product Management (PM) in customer discussions (and engagements) to better understand needs, pain points, and workflows. Act as R&D’s guardian, by reviewing (an ultimately approving) PM drafted business requirements to ensure they are sufficiently detailed for R&D consumption (i.e., requirements are understood & actionable). Decomposes business requirements into a detailed set of functional and non-functional requirements (i.e., technical requirements), the same subsequently sent for PM review & approval. Ensures that all required development artifacts (e.g., estimates, flow diagrams, OLH, product handbooks, development record, etc.) are created and approved (when deemed fit for purpose), be that by him/herself or other members of the assigned development team (incl. architects and suchlike). Acts as the Voice of the Customer (and/or other stakeholders) during development & deployment, providing/obtaining timely clarifications to/for the development team (and/or other stakeholders) as/when required. Together with Tier 2A: Solution-Level Stewards, acts as R&Ds main focal point between the development team(s) and all major stakeholders. Supports development team managers in the discharge of their duties (e.g., prioritizing feature workitems, evaluating development progress, validation, etc.).
Other key activities Creates (with the development team) and subsequently grooms related feature development artifacts in the working backlog (e.g., ADO work items - user stories, tasks, issues & linked bugs), while ensuring documented acceptance criteria has been attained prior to closure. Identifies and highlights scope changes/slippages at the earliest opportunity, ensuring the change control process is triggered as/when necessary.
Identifies the need to capture development items in release notes and/or other customer facing material (e.g., training, sales & marketing), providing input as/when necessary. Your background At least 5 years in Product Owner role in software development. Master Electrical/Power Systems Engineering, or Master’s degree with equivalent electric power industry experience. Familiarity with WAMS/WAMPAC, PMU data, and protection and control applications or power system dynamics would be added advantage Experience working in Agile software development environments with in-depth knowledge of Agile principles, processes, and best practices. Sharp analytical mind and skills to solve problems and extract their essence. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Good communication, presentation, and leadership skills. Willingness to work in an international project set-up and excellent team player Understanding (by education or professional experience) of power system domain Nice to have: Technical experience in software development and experience in UX. Proficiency in English
