Company Description

We are a boutique IT recruiting agency that strictly works with IT consulting companies and managed services providers. We place candidates on a permanent, full time basis (no contract or contract-to-hire positions).

Job Description

Field Technician – Managed IT Services (MSP)

Location: New York City / Manhattan

Compensation: Up to $65,000 annually + benefits

Employment Type: Full-Time

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an established New York City managed services provider that is looking to add a Field Technician to its growing technical team.

This is a client-facing IT support position for someone who already has experience working for an MSP and enjoys working directly with end users. You will provide both remote and onsite support, traveling to client locations throughout Manhattan to troubleshoot issues, support users and serve as a trusted technical resource.

Technical ability matters, but communication skills are paramount in this position. The right person must be personable, professional, patient and comfortable walking into a client’s office and interacting with everyone from individual end users to senior executives.

This is also a genuine career-development role. The company has a strong history of promoting from within, and successful Field Technicians can grow into senior-level Systems Administrator and Systems Engineer positions as they develop technically and take on greater responsibility.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide onsite and remote technical support to clients throughout New York City
  • Troubleshoot Windows and macOS desktops, laptops, applications and peripherals
  • Support Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and other business applications
  • Perform Active Directory and Entra ID user administration, including account creation, password resets, permissions, groups and onboarding/offboarding
  • Diagnose networking issues involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPN connectivity and LAN environments
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, monitors, docking stations and other office technology
  • Assist with workstation deployments, hardware refreshes and new-user setups
  • Resolve issues remotely when possible and travel onsite when hands-on support is required
  • Accurately document troubleshooting, resolutions and client environments in ticketing and documentation systems
  • Escalate advanced issues to senior engineers while providing complete and useful technical information
  • Communicate clearly with clients throughout the troubleshooting process and ensure they understand the status and resolution of their issue
  • Work alongside senior engineers and gain exposure to more advanced systems, networking and infrastructure projects

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience working for a Managed Services Provider (MSP) is required
  • Approximately 2+ years of professional IT support, desktop support, help desk or field support experience
  • Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Active Directory / Entra ID environments
  • Strong Windows desktop and laptop troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, Wi-Fi, switches and routers
  • Experience supporting users both remotely and face-to-face
  • Experience with ticketing, PSA, RMM or documentation platforms such as ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA, IT Glue, Datto or similar tools
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to client sites throughout Manhattan
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and the ability to know when to resolve an issue independently versus escalate it

Communication & Client Service

This is not a back-office IT position.

You will regularly represent the company inside client offices, so we are looking for someone who:

  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Enjoys working directly with people
  • Can explain technical problems without unnecessary jargon
  • Remains patient and composed with frustrated users
  • Listens carefully before jumping to a solution
  • Is comfortable interacting with executives and other high-level users
  • Takes ownership of problems and follows through
  • Understands that providing excellent IT support is as much about the user experience as the technical fix

Strong technical candidates who struggle to communicate effectively with clients will not be successful in this role.

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following would be helpful:

  • Microsoft Intune or other endpoint management platforms
  • Exchange Online administration
  • Group Policy
  • Windows Server
  • Network troubleshooting and switch/firewall environments
  • ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA or similar MSP platforms
  • IT Glue or similar documentation platforms
  • Financial-services, legal or other high-touch professional-services clients
  • Supporting executive or VIP users

Career Growth

This company promotes heavily from within and views the Field Technician role as a feeder position into senior technical roles.

Strong performers who demonstrate reliability, excellent client service and continued technical development can advance into Senior Systems Administrator, Senior Systems Engineer and other higher-level infrastructure positions.

The goal is not for the right person to remain a Field Technician indefinitely. This is an opportunity to join the company, learn its client environments, build broader technical skills and progress into significantly more advanced systems and engineering work.

If you have a solid MSP support foundation, enjoy working with clients and want a clear path toward becoming a senior-level engineer or administrator, we would like to hear from you.

Salary: Up to $65,000 annually + benefits

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
