The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Editor-in-Chief, Solar Power World based in the United States.

The Editor-in-Chief will lead the editorial vision, content strategy, and audience development of a leading solar industry publication. This hands-on leadership role combines original journalism, editorial direction, and community building to serve professionals across solar installation, project development, equipment, energy storage, and policy. You will shape coverage across digital, newsletter, podcast, webinar, and event platforms while maintaining the publication’s credibility and editorial independence. Alongside guiding contributors and managing daily operations, you will develop industry conversations and flagship programs that strengthen audience engagement. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial journalist to influence how the solar sector understands and responds to a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Accountabilities

  • Lead editorial strategy: Set the editorial direction across solar installation, project development, equipment, energy storage, policy, and the broader solar business landscape. Balance timely news with original reporting, technical coverage, practical business insights, and in-depth features while maintaining accuracy, fairness, strong sourcing, and editorial independence.
  • Report, write, and edit: Produce original news, interviews, features, and analysis while remaining actively involved in journalism. Build trusted relationships with contractors, installers, developers, manufacturers, policymakers, and other industry sources. Edit staff, freelance, and contributed content, making complex technical and policy topics accessible without losing substance.
  • Manage editorial operations: Own the editorial calendar across daily coverage, long-term projects, newsletters, multimedia, and events. Coordinate staff and contributors, set priorities, manage deadlines, and provide constructive feedback. Use audience analytics to inform editorial decisions and AI tools to support productivity without compromising original reporting.
  • Develop a multiplatform editorial brand: Direct and contribute to newsletters, develop and host webinars and podcasts, and shape live-event agendas. Recruit guests and speakers, conduct interviews, moderate panels, and cover trade shows, conferences, and project sites. Engage readers through professional networks and industry conversations, adapting content thoughtfully for different channels.
  • Lead flagship industry programs: Own the editorial strategy, annual calendar, execution, and ongoing development of the Top Solar Contractors and Top Products programs. Oversee submissions, verification, and editorial review, maintaining transparent and consistent criteria. Direct related coverage and the annual Top Solar Contractors awards reception, while supporting promotional and commercial opportunities without compromising editorial integrity.
  • Identify growth opportunities: Use audience data, reader feedback, and industry relationships to identify unmet needs and develop new newsletters, editorial series, multimedia offerings, and live experiences. Build proposals outlining audience value, resources, and business potential, then collaborate with colleagues to launch and assess new initiatives.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work with audience development, production, marketing, and commercial colleagues to grow the publication while maintaining clear boundaries between editorial and sponsored content.
  • At least 5 years of experience in journalism, editorial leadership, content strategy, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Strong reporting, writing, and editing experience in B2B, trade, business, technical, or energy journalism.
  • Proven ability to set editorial priorities, manage contributors, coordinate multiple projects, and meet deadlines while remaining a hands-on content producer.
  • Excellent news judgment and the ability to distinguish meaningful industry developments from promotional claims.
  • Curiosity and technical fluency to cover solar equipment, installation practices, energy storage, project economics, and policy.
  • Confidence interviewing subject-matter experts, moderating industry discussions, and representing a media brand publicly.
  • Experience creating or overseeing newsletters, webinars, podcasts, event programming, or other multiplatform editorial initiatives.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to translate audience needs into relevant and sustainable editorial concepts.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, including the ability to use audience data without allowing traffic targets to undermine relevance or reader trust.
  • Sound judgment regarding sourcing, conflicts of interest, and the separation of editorial and sponsored work.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for reporting, industry events, company meetings, and brand activities.
  • Particularly valuable experience includes covering solar or related technical markets, managing rankings or industry recognition programs, and launching or growing editorial products, communities, or events.
  • Annual salary of $85,000–$99,000, depending on experience.
  • Performance-based incentives in addition to base salary.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and other health plan options.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a fully vested company match.
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, sick time, floating holidays, bereavement leave, and 12 company holidays.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Paid parental leave and support for work-life balance.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Collaborative, dedicated, and fast-moving team culture.
  • Opportunities to build relationships with senior executives and industry professionals.
  • Career development opportunities within a growing B2B media, events, data, and marketing environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
