Article Student Living is hiring a Vice President of Facilities to lead facilities across our national student housing portfolio. You will set the vision and drive the strategy for facilities operations while overseeing a team of 4–6 geographically dispersed Regional Facilities Managers. In this role, you will establish the standards, schedules, and priorities that keep every asset safe, reliable, and consistent. This role operates at the 30,000-foot view, shaping portfolio-wide direction while serving as a key escalation point to help triage complex facilities challenges across regions.

As the Vice President of Facilities, you will provide strategic leadership across the portfolio, driving maintenance excellence, capital planning, asset preservation, and process optimization. You will work closely with our Director of Training to develop regional facilities teams and align talent development initiatives with operational goals. You will also partner with our capital projects group, where there is natural overlap with the Senior Project Manager, Capital Projects, to align facilities and capital priorities and optimize long-term asset performance. The ideal candidate combines executive presence with operational expertise, possessing the ability to effectively communicate and build alignment with our leadership team, while also connecting with and leading onsite maintenance teams through a deep understanding of major building systems, property operations, and site-level execution.

This is a hybrid role based in our Fulton Market office in Chicago, IL, with in-office work required Monday through Thursday and remote work on Fridays. Occasional travel of up to 50% required. Location: Chicago, IL. Candidates must either live in Chicagoland or be willing to relocate to the area. The salary range for this role is $150K - $165K, plus an annual bonus. Responsibilities:

Provide executive leadership over facilities operations across Article's national portfolio, ensuring safe and reliable communities. Set and accomplish preventative maintenance, facilities standards, and long-term asset strategies to support portfolio performance and resident experience. Be a subject matter expert on complex building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety. Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, safety regulations, environmental standards, and internal policies. Partner with senior leadership and teams to align facilities programs with asset business plans, capital projects, and our goals. Manage facilities operating budgets, driving cost efficiency and disciplined resource allocation. Build the facilities organization, including regional and national teams, while managing vendor relationships and performance.

Your Track Record:

Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a related field. 10+ years of facilities management experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role Experience overseeing a national portfolio of assets (25+ assets a/o 10,000+ beds) Experience implementing portfolio-wide standards, CMMS systems, WiFi/access-control upgrades, and major building system replacements. Direct oversight of geographically diverse regional maintenance teams (non-union and union) Detailed understanding of critical building systems, construction, maintenance operations, and preventative maintenance strategies. Track record leading teams, collaborating with senior executives, and managing vendor relationships. Financial knowledge with experience managing large capital budgets (min $XM+) and driving operational efficiency. Proficiency in MS Office (advanced Excel), Procore, and project management platforms; willing to travel up to 50%.
