Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Assistant to join our Ashland Specialty Ingredients business at our Calvert City, Kentucky facility. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the environmental compliance function. This position will report to the Environmental Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as the primary administrative resource supporting site environmental compliance programs, documentation systems, and regulatory reporting activities.
  • Maintain records and coordinate activities associated with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs, including profiles, manifests, and disposal documentation.
  • Administer environmental data and compliance tracking systems, including SAP and other environmental management tools.
  • Compile, organize, and maintain wastewater compliance data and support submission of regulatory reports, including Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs).
  • Maintain environmental compliance plans and associated records, including SPCC Plans, Groundwater Protection Plans, and Stormwater BMP documentation.
  • Administer chemical inventory systems and support Tier II and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • You will work alongside experienced environmental professionals and operations personnel supporting critical environmental compliance programs that enable safe and reliable plant operations.
  • We value continuous improvement and innovative ideas that strengthen compliance processes, improve data management, and enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Actively contribute to the organizational goals by taking initiative, executing on goals and focusing on performance and safety.
  • Improve the organization capacity and capabilities through building collaborative relationships, optimizing diverse talent and utilizing positive communications and influence with others.

What This Role Is Not:

  • Not a management position. This is an individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Not an engineering design role. The position focuses on environmental program administration, regulatory documentation, data management, and compliance support.
  • Not an entry-level position. We require extensive practical experience supporting environmental compliance programs in an industrial environment.
  • Not primarily a field position. While occasional plant interaction is required, much of the role centers on documentation, reporting, recordkeeping, and program coordination.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field of study.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting environmental compliance programs in a manufacturing, industrial, chemical, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with RCRA hazardous waste management and manifest administration.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Clean Water Act compliance, including NPDES/KPDES permit programs and DMR reporting.
  • Experience administering SPCC, Tier II, chemical inventory, or related environmental compliance programs.
  • Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and electronic document management systems.
  • Experience maintaining regulatory records, compliance databases, and environmental reporting documentation.
  • Demonstrated responsible and ethical behavior at all times.
  • The ability to help the company drive greater value through understanding the business, making complex decisions and creating the new and different.

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience preparing or supporting electronic regulatory submissions in Kentucky specific systems such as the Tempo database.
  • Competent Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting functions.
  • Experience supporting environmental audits, inspections, and management systems.

Perks of Working at Ashland:

  • Comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage starting on Day 1 for you and your family.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Bonus program.
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth within a global organization.
  • Supporting work/life balance through flexible work arrangements where business needs allow.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
