POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Broadcast Engineering leads the reliability, development, and daily upkeep of technical systems and engineering support for the control room and connected production infrastructure at Barclays Center. Reporting to the Senior Director of Facilities Presentation, this position manages the engineering team, establishes technical standards, and aligns staffing, maintenance, and capital planning with event needs. The Director provides hands-on leadership during complex technical issues and partners with Production, IPTV, IT, and external broadcast teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: What You Will Do
- Leads the engineering teams which includes but not exclusive to managing, coaching, and evaluating the Video Engineering team and the Audio Engineering team.
- Establishes team priorities, delegate tasks, plan event coverage, and coordinate part-time staff, union crews, and contractors.
- Coordinates events and partnership needs in addition to working with production leadership, event operations, visiting broadcasts, and other departments to translate show requirements into practical engineering plans, communicates limitations, and establish service and escalation expectations.
- Maintains NBA & WNBA requirements through managing NBA HSAN infrastructure, game clock systems, coach’s feeds distribution, locker room infrastructure, official replay systems, player tracking technology, and related game-day technical requirements.
- Own broadcast system performance and oversee the SMPTE ST 2110 environment, including Grass Valley Kayenne/K-Frame, Evertz EXE/MAGNUM, DreamCatcher, Dante audio systems, Riedel intercom, QC monitoring, Adder KVM, and signal distribution systems.
- Establishes reliability and recovery plans by developing preventive maintenance, monitoring, configuration backups, software and firmware planning, and redundancy testing.
- Leads critical technical responses and acts as a key part of senior staff escalation for issues and failures that affect events or game-day operations. Provides on-call support to coordinate service restoration, communicate impacts, ensures root-cause of issues are reviewed that produces corrective actions.
- Manages projects, vendors, and resources. Defines project requirements, evaluates vendors, manage approved expenditures, and oversees installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover.
- Maintain engineering standards by creating documentation, inventory, access, and configuration standards.
- Coordinates broadcast network changes with IT, maintain drawings and procedures, and uses incident trends to prioritize training and system improvements.
CANDIDATE PROFILE: Who You Are
The ideal candidate brings deep broadcast engineering expertise, strong technical leadership, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced live event environment.
- Minimum 10 years of broadcast engineering or comparable live production infrastructure experience, including a minimum of three years supervising technical staff and leading engineering projects, maintenance programs, and/or event support.
- Demonstrated ability to design, support, and troubleshoot SMPTE ST 2110 systems, including PTP synchronization, multicast traffic, IP addressing, VLANs, network redundancy, and interfaces between IP and SDI systems.
- Strong understanding of switchers, routers, replay/playback, cameras, broadcast audio, intercom, tally/control, and monitoring, with working familiarity with lighting interfaces.
- Ability to interpret and create engineering/CAD drawings and establish accurate signal-flow, cabling, and system documentation.
- Ability to develop budgets, evaluate technical proposals, manage vendors and implementation schedules, and make equipment lifecycle recommendations based on operational needs, reliability, and available resources.
- Sound judgment under live event pressure, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly, resolve competing priorities, train staff, and collaborate with internal partners, visiting production teams, multiple trades, and union crews.
- Ability to work flexible schedules as needed to support live events, urgent technical issues, maintenance windows, and last-minute schedule adjustments. The role regularly requires nights, weekends, and holidays, including extended days, late nights, and early mornings, and may include on-call support for time-sensitive technical needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Where You Will Be
- This position is fully on-site based in Barclays Center, located in the heart of Brooklyn, New York.
- This role requires consistent attendance to support daily operations, foster collaboration, and provide direct support to employees, business partners and key stakeholders.
- Ability to work flexible hours to support live events, urgent technical issues, maintenance windows, and last-minute schedule adjustments is crucial. Schedules often include nights, weekends, holidays, long days, late nights, and early mornings, with on-call support as needed.
