The posting

​​ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR)​ is seeking a ​Systems Engineer​ to join our ​Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) - Systems Engineering​ team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a ​full-time​ ​on-site​ position at the ​Radar Operations Center (ROC)​ in ​Norman, OK​. 

 

​​The NEXRAD Systems Engineering team provides comprehensive systems engineering support for the Weather Surveillance Radar 1988 Doppler (WSR-88D), also known as NEXRAD. They deliver essential lifecycle management for the radar's critical processing and networking infrastructure, specifically focusing on the Radar Data Acquisition (RDA) rack, the Radar Product Generator (RPG) rack, and all associated communications infrastructure.​ 

 

Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement 

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance. 

Be a US Citizen. Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years. RealID Driver’s License/ID or current US Passport. 

 

 

Relocation Requirement 

Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to the ​Radar Operations Center (ROC)​ in ​Norman, OK​. 

 

Education & Experience Requirement 

All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate at the time of application. 

A ​Bachelors (ABET)​ degree in ​Engineering or related IT field, such as Physics, Aerospace, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Mathematics.​ Experience with NAS facilities, systems, and equipment is ​desired​. 6 - 9​ years of related work experience.  

 

 

Required Skills 

Develops and plans techniques to address real-time and anticipated engineering problems, including integrating new products and resolving code review issues. Provides support for modernization and enhancement of systems as requested by the government. Performs market research and evaluates needs for updating end-of-life hardware. Identifies needs and drives the development and implementation of major processes. Handles and documents trouble calls from product end users when needed. Supports ongoing lab activities, including maintenance and development of lab hardware. Proficient in programming languages and scripts used in model and tool development (C, C++, Python). Maintains and develops lab hardware for continued operational support.​ Ability to:

Work independently, as well as on a team, in an agile environment. Research, troubleshoot and problem solve quickly. Learn on the job/willing to self-teach. Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with high organization. 

 

 

Preferred Skills 

Proficient with simulation tools for analysis (Matlab, Simulink). Familiarity with hardware system design, schematics, and interconnects. Demonstrates initiative with minimal oversight. Experience working in a team environment. Skilled in developing and authoring technical documentation. Provides technical support. Good written and spoken communication skills​.

 

Essential Daily Job Duties 

Manage and coordinate engineering projects, including scheduling and overseeing changes from initiation to completion. Perform research and maintenance on weather systems hardware and software. Originate, write, test, update, and document projects supporting weather system software. Lead coordination, drafting, review, and editing of technical reports and drawings for final approval and distribution. Provide support using programming languages such as C, C++, and Python. Develop and configure software for system devices and hardware.​ 

 

Work Environment 

Standard flexible work schedule. Travel is ​< 10%​. Cubicle environment.
