Astrolab median: 4 days open

The posting

Astrolab is The Lunar Operations Company. We design and build the systems and hardware the lunar economy will come to depend on — rovers, power, and data networks for sustained operations on the Moon. We are focused on the problems that must be solved before the next chapter of human exploration can scale. The Moon does not forgive untested assumptions. The people who work here know that, and they wouldn't have it any other way.

Astrolab relies on a wide assortment of software tools to build, test, and operate our extra-terrestrial rovers. As a full-stack software developer at Astrolab, you will be developing the tools we rely on, ranging from mission operation software to engineering tooling to tooling to support software development, software testing, and hardware testing.

NOTE: Astrolab is not currently interested in AI-developed software at this juncture. We are seeking experienced software developers with significant hands-on experience designing, architecting, developing, and testing code with little to no assistance from any large language models.

What you'll do:

  • Develop software for a wide variety of applications, including mission operations software, specialized tools to support engineering tasks, internal monitoring tooling, and more
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to define software needs and produce robust design criteria and use cases
  • Integrate and test software applications to ensure reliability, functionality, and performance
  • Develop robust, high performance back end tooling to handle complicated workflows and large amounts of data
  • Develop intuitive, easy to use web-based and desktop application front end user interfaces that meet the specific needs of users
  • Develop automated pipelines for regression testing, pre-deployment verification and validation, deployment, and patching
  • Ensure all software produced meets applicable security standards and data protection needs
  • Support the overall planning, design, development, deployment, maintenance, and integration of Astrolab’s in house software tools

What you'll bring:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) related field
  • 1+ years of experience with Python, javascript, typescript, and other languages commonly used for software applications
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD systems, infrastructure as code paradigms, and similar modern software development tooling and practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software for the following applications or similar: Human-rated safety critical software applications Mission control or vehicle control software with web-based user interfaces Engineering tools to support manufacturing workflows, avionics testing, or vehicle integration and testing Software for safety critical medical applications Database backends for efficient handling of large amounts of data and associated relationships with web-based user front ends for searching, organizing, and displaying engineering information
  • Experience implementing software that meets NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 security specifications
  • Experience with static analysis tooling, dynamic memory analysis tooling, fuzz testing, penetration testing, and other methods used to detect potential security defects
  • Experience with NASA or DoD software safety standards and software certification processes

Benefits and Perks

  • Join a team of best-in-class engineers building the foundation of planetary surface exploration
  • Equity ownership in the company
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and mental health support
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Flexible PTO and parental leave
  • Weekly lunch stipend, plus complimentary snacks and beverages on-site
  • Once a month social hour on-site with food and drinks

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
