JOB TITLE: Principal System Engineering

JOB LOCATION: 211 S Akard St., Dallas, TX 75202

DUTIES: Architect, design and analyze large-scale distributed systems by defining end-to-end system architecture across software components, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards for

performance, scalability, reliability, security, and usability. Determine and implement integrated architecture solutions by evaluating and selecting appropriate technologies (e.g. cloud platforms, micro services, event-driven systems, APIs and data platforms) to meet evolving business and technical requirements. Lead architectural design decisions and serve as primary point of contact for complex technical solutions, ensuring consistency, scalability and alignment across multiple engineering teams and systems. Coordinate system design and integration efforts across multiple applications including frontend, backend, APIs, data stores and infrastructure to deliver cohesive and scalable enterprise solutions. Design and develop multiple system versions and prototypes to evaluate and optimize performance scalability and fault tolerance under varying workloads and production scenarios. Drive development of new technologies and modernize initiatives including migration from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures, micro services and API driven platforms. Research, evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and tools (e.g. AI/ML, cloud services, GraphQL, caching strategies) to improve system efficiency, developer productivity and overall system quality. Define and enforce technical standards, design patterns and best practices for application development, system integration, API design, caching, session management and error handling across engineering teams. Collaborate with cross functional teams and leadership (including architects, product managers and engineering directors) to align technical solutions with business objectives and strategic initiation. Review and refine architectural solutions for large scale epics and initiatives ensuring technical feasibility, readiness and alignment prior to implementation. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including architectural diagrams, design documents, API specifications and operation guidelines. Mentor and provide technical leadership to engineers and development teams including conducting design reviews, code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions to improve engineering quality and productivity. Identify and implement process improvements in software development lifecycle including CI/CD pipelines, release processes, testing strategies and automation of engineering workflows. Lead performance optimization efforts including tuning application performance, improving response times and optimizing resource utilization across distributed systems. Participate in production support and incident management including troubleshooting complex issues, implementing hot fixes and ensuring system continuity and high availability. Build multiple versions systems addressing performance and scale. Develop technical documentation on applications and systems. Utilize modern frontend technologies including React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, Redux, MUI, Styled Components, Tailwind CSS, React Native, and Java development (Java/Kotlin). Utilize backend frameworks and enterprise application development using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, Struts2, and integration with REST, SOAP APIs, and GraphQL along with database systems Cassandra NoSQL, RDBMS Oracle/Postgres/MySQL. Use event-driven and messaging systems such as Kafka, along with networking protocols including HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, and UDP. Utilize DevOps, CI/CD, and code quality tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Veracode, Helm, Docker, and Kubernetes. Utilize build and version control tools such as Maven, Gradle, Ant, GitLab, Bitbucket, and GitHub. Use public clouds such as Google Cloud, Azure Cloud and monitoring platforms such as Splunk, and Dynatrace.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Applied Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Engineering and seven (7) years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in the job offered or seven (7) years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in a related occupation building multiple versions systems addressing performance and scale; and developing technical documentation on applications and systems; utilizing modern frontend technologies including React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, Redux, MUI, Styled Components, Tailwind CSS, React Native, and Java development (Java/Kotlin); utilizing backend frameworks and enterprise application development using Spring Boot, Spring

MVC, Spring Security, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, Struts2, and integration with REST, SOAP APIs, and GraphQL along with database systems Cassandra NoSQL, RDBMS Oracle/Postgres/MySQL; using event-driven and messaging systems such as Kafka, along with networking protocols including HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, and UDP; utilizing DevOps, CI/CD, and code quality tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Veracode, Helm, Docker, and Kubernetes; utilizing build and version control tools such as Maven, Gradle, Ant, GitLab, Bitbucket, and GitHub; using public clouds such as Google Cloud, Azure Cloud and monitoring platforms such as Splunk, and Dynatrace.

Our Principal System Engineering jobs earn between $174,100.00 - $261,100.00 USD Annual. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
