The posting

Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

Role Summary

Lead one to two software engineering teams in the Medication Management zone, with responsibility for both customer-reported issue resolution and feature delivery. This hybrid role, based in Boston, MA, is an opportunity to shape product delivery, strengthen team performance, and partner across product, design, and other functions to deliver reliable, high-impact outcomes in a collaborative environment.

Team Summary

The Medication Management zone builds mission-critical solutions used by over 170,000 healthcare providers every day. We empower providers to make informed, personalized clinical treatment decisions in partnership with each patient, regarding their medications, vaccines, and medical supplies. The zone owns critical parts of the Athenahealth EMR application and operates in an agile environment focused on incremental, customer-centered value delivery.

We are a mission-driven team committed to improving patient safety, streamlining clinical workflows, and supporting continuous learning and innovation. Team members are encouraged to share ideas, strengthen engineering practices, and contribute to the long-term success of the products we build.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Lead one to two high performing software engineering teams, including a team responsible for triaging, prioritizing, fixing and resolving customer reported issues, and a team responsible for feature development and delivery
  • Partner with product managers and user experience designers to define priorities, scope work, and establish realistic delivery timelines
  • Drive technical planning, execution, and delivery across assigned workstreams, ensuring timely completion while maintaining quality
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and follow-up improvements when product issues arise
  • Coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, goal setting, career growth support, and individualized development opportunities
  • Evaluate engineering processes and recommend improvements that strengthen planning, delivery, and operational performance
  • Champion and apply AI tools and AI-assisted workflows to improve engineering productivity, support faster problem solving, and help the team identify practical ways AI can strengthen day-to-day engineering work.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to use Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and other LLM-powered tools to reduce repetitive engineering work, accelerate codebase understanding, improve test coverage, and shorten development feedback cycles
  • Participate in technical design reviews and planning discussions to help shape implementation approaches
  • Help refine team practices for estimation, prioritization, and sprint execution
  • Assist in creating a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement

Expected Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years of combined experience in engineering and people management, with responsibility for product delivery and team development
  • Demonstrated ability to balance priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with enterprise monolith applications as well as Cloud based enterprise applications
  • Experience leading teams and working effectively with cross-functional stakeholders

Expected Compensation

$143,000 - $243,000

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
