The In-House Repair Tradesman is responsible for completing residential and commercial repair work associated with property damage restoration projects. This position performs a variety of general construction, finish carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and other repair services necessary to restore properties to their pre-loss condition.
The ideal candidate is a dependable, skilled tradesman who takes pride in quality workmanship, communicates professionally with customers and team members, and can manage assigned repairs with minimal supervision. This individual will help improve project turnaround times, maintain quality standards, reduce reliance on subcontractors for smaller repairs, and support the overall profitability of the reconstruction department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Repair and Construction
- Perform general residential and commercial repairs resulting from water, fire, smoke, and other property damage.
- Complete drywall installation, patching, taping, texturing, and finishing.
- Perform interior and exterior painting, including surface preparation and touch-ups.
- Complete finish carpentry, including baseboards, trim, door installation, hardware, and minor cabinet repairs.
- Perform flooring repairs and installation as qualified, including LVP, laminate, tile, and other common flooring materials.
- Complete minor plumbing, fixture replacement, and other basic repairs within the employee’s training and legal scope of work.
- Install and replace doors, trim, cabinetry components, and other building materials as needed.
- Identify additional repair needs and communicate them to the appropriate Project Director.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas throughout each project.
Project Execution and Customer Service
- Complete assigned repairs within established schedules and quality expectations.
- Review the scope of work before beginning each assignment and identify missing materials, potential issues, or scope discrepancies.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, tenants, property managers, and other project stakeholders.
- Protect customer property, furnishings, and unaffected areas during repair activities.
- Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively at every job site.
- Document completed work, job progress, material needs, and any issues requiring management attention.
- Obtain approval before performing work outside the authorized scope.
- Complete final walkthroughs and address punch-list items and callbacks promptly.
Materials, Equipment, and Job Management
- Identify required materials and communicate purchasing needs in advance.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and assigned vehicle in good working condition, if applicable.
- Track time and materials accurately according to company procedures.
- Minimize material waste and use company resources responsibly.
- Coordinate with Project Directors and other team members to prevent delays and maintain efficient workflow.
- Follow all company safety procedures, applicable building codes, and job-site requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in residential construction, property restoration, remodeling, or general maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to perform multiple repair trades, with an emphasis on drywall, painting, finish carpentry, and general repairs.
- Ability to read and follow scopes of work, measurements, and basic construction plans.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and manage time effectively.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, if driving is required.
- Ability to lift materials, work on ladders, and perform physical construction tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to pass required background checks and meet company safety requirements.
