The posting

Your Future Org To be a 100-year company, we are proudly building a world-class engineering organization composed of empowered teams that are equipped with the tools and infrastructure to do the best work of their careers. Engineering at Atlassian prioritizes initiatives that advance AI and support our customers’ transition to the cloud while consistently delivering maximum value through our core product suite - Jira, Confluence, Trello, and Bitbucket. We seek individuals who are eager to shape the future and believe in the power of collaboration to achieve extraordinary results together.

Your Future Team In this role as a Senior FinOps Analyst, reporting into the Head of Engineering FinOps, you’ll be an important part of our cost efficiency strategy across Atlassian. As a member of our industry-leading FinOps team you’ll be using our cost data and your cloud engineering experience to build a culture of cost efficiency across our AWS and GCP environments. It’s your job to make sure our teams are educated and aware of their costs, understand the opportunities for efficiency and take direct action to improve the rate and usage of our cloud resources.

Responsibilities

  • Own cost and usage insights for the teams and domains you partner with, identifying usage optimisation opportunities and making clear, evidence-backed recommendations that teams can adopt
  • Work with engineering teams to find viable rate optimisation commitments, and contribute to conversations with cloud vendors on pricing and billing
  • Lead cost efficiency discussions with engineering and finance teams
  • Support cost allocation and attribution (tagging, showback and chargeback) so spend maps to services and teams, and connect it to product and customer outcomes through unit economics
  • Design data models, reports and dashboards that give multiple stakeholders visibility of costs and opportunities
  • Set standards for how we query our data, and build analytical models that keep working as the data changes
  • Use AI tooling to speed up analysis and make our cost insights easier to act on
  • Validate cost savings, including where there are complex considerations and trade-offs
  • Plan and deliver training for engineers, improve our team documentation, and mentor more junior analysts
  • Work as part of a fast-growing, multi-disciplinary, high impact FinOps team, with exposure and visibility across Atlassian engineering teams and senior leaders

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a technical business analyst, data analyst or FinOps analyst
  • Demonstrated SQL or Python skills, including writing high quality queries across complex data sources
  • A good understanding of cloud technology and how it is consumed and billed
  • Experience turning data into recommendations for engineering or finance stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with GCP cost and usage data, such as billing exports, committed use discounts and reservations
  • A background in FinOps, ideally at a SaaS or software company
  • A background in business financial operations
  • Technical or management experience with AWS
  • Technical experience as a cloud engineer
  • Familiarity with the cost of AI workloads
  • Experience with tools such as Databricks, BigQuery and Tableau, and an interest in data visualisation practices
  • Vendor management experience
  • A FinOps Certified Practitioner or Google Cloud Professional certification

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
