Who we are
Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.
Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.
Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.
This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.
We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.

About the role
Atoms is looking for a Litigation Counsel to join our in-house legal team. In this role, you will advise businesses operating at the frontier of several industries on how to best navigate disputes and litigation threats. You will own matters from the first sign of a dispute through final resolution, working closely with business leaders and outside counsel to protect the company and achieve exceptional outcomes.
This role is for someone who thrives in ambiguity, solves complex problems, and delivers high-quality legal work quickly. You'll handle a varied docket and also help shape how Atoms anticipates, manages, and resolves disputes as the company grows.
What you’ll do
- Advise the business through the full dispute lifecycle. Counsel business units from early risk spotting and pre-dispute strategy through final resolution. Communicate proactively about case status, risks, and recommended actions
- Own and resolve litigated disputes. Lead litigation and arbitration matters hands-on. That means selecting and proactively managing outside counsel, while handling matters in-house when appropriate.
- Run internal discovery and e-discovery. Manage legal holds, document collection, preservation, and production.
- Train and educate. Design and deliver practical legal training for business partners on topics such as dispute avoidance, professional communication, and escalation protocols. This means developing familiarity with company operations and stakeholders to identify needs.
- Build scalable infrastructure. Create and improve processes, playbooks, templates, and reporting that help the legal team and business units handle disputes consistently and efficiently.
What we’re looking for
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the California bar.
- 3–6 years of litigation experience, including hands-on trial and/or arbitration experience, with significant commercial litigation experience preferred.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to turn complex legal issues into clear, actionable business advice.
- Exceptional attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture.
Ideal background
- Experience at a top-tier litigation firm and/or in-house at a fast-growing company.
- A detail-oriented litigator with broad commercial litigation experience [breach of contract, business torts, IP, etc.] as well as experience handling other common issues impacting businesses [privacy, class action, consumer, regulatory, etc.].
- Experience effectively managing multiple matters at once.
Core competencies
- Judgment and decision-making: Excellent judgment and the confidence to make tough calls in a fast-paced environment, often with incomplete information.
- High-velocity execution: You produce precise, high-quality work quickly and reliably.
- Negotiation: You are a skilled advocate who can reach favorable resolutions while preserving business relationships where it matters.
- Business partnership: You understand the commercial context and give pragmatic, solutions-oriented advice.
- Comfort with change: You adapt easily, take ownership in ambiguous situations, and are energized by building something new.
- Ownership and integrity: You take full accountability for your matters and uphold the highest ethical standards.
