Help Shape a Safer Future with Anglian Water Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for process safety, hazardous area compliance, and technical excellence? Do you want to use your expertise to help protect people, assets, and the environment while influencing industry best practice?

We're looking for a DSEAR Engineer – Electrical Inspector to join our Process Safety team. As a Subject Matter Expert, you'll play a key role in ensuring compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) across Anglian Water's Water Recycling and Water Supply sites.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist team responsible for inspecting, assessing, and improving electrical assets operating within potentially explosive atmospheres, while providing expert technical advice and support across the business.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the DSEAR Technical Manager, you'll undertake detailed inspections, risk assessments, and compliance activities across a diverse portfolio of assets and operational sites.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out detailed and close-grade inspections of electrical equipment within hazardous area zones in accordance with BS EN 60079-17.
  • Completing site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential ignition sources, loss of containment risks, and other DSEAR-related concerns.
  • Reviewing hazardous area classification reports, zone drawings, certification documentation, and intrinsically safe circuit calculations.
  • Using technologies such as thermography and vibration analysis to support preventative maintenance activities.
  • Producing high-quality inspection reports, risk assessments, and defect documentation to demonstrate legal compliance.
  • Identifying remedial requirements and supporting the delivery of associated projects and capital investment programmes.
  • Reviewing contractor proposals and completed works to ensure compliance with DSEAR, ATEX, and relevant engineering standards.
  • Supporting design, construction, and project delivery activities in line with CDM regulations.
  • Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and coaching to colleagues, apprentices, technicians, and operational teams.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for hazardous area electrical equipment and DSEAR compliance across the wider business.
  • Supporting audits, competency assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives within the DSEAR programme.

About You

You'll be a technically capable engineer with strong experience working in hazardous areas and a thorough understanding of electrical compliance within high-risk industrial environments.

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • Strong practical experience working with hazardous area electrical equipment and DSEAR compliance.
  • Knowledge of BS EN 60079 standards, ATEX principles, and explosion protection techniques.
  • Experience carrying out inspections of electrical equipment within classified hazardous areas.
  • The ability to interpret hazardous area classification drawings, equipment certification, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of intrinsically safe systems and electrical protection concepts.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work collaboratively across operational, engineering, and contractor teams.
  • A methodical approach to identifying risks and implementing practical, compliant solutions.
  • Experience supporting contractors and reviewing technical proposals and remedial works.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental performance.

Why Join Us?

At Anglian Water, safety is more than a priority, it's a core value. You'll be joining a company committed to delivering essential services safely, sustainably, and responsibly while investing in its people and future capability.

You'll benefit from:

  • Personal private health care
  • Life cover – 8x annual salary
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays (with flexibility for religious holidays)
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Competitive pension scheme – we double-match your contributions up to 7%
  • Bonus scheme and a wide range of lifestyle benefits
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to work as a recognised Subject Matter Expert in a specialist technical field

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
