The posting

Technical Lead / Engineering Manager *This role is open to remote or hybrid candidates (East Coast preference), with hybrid being central to our New York, NY or Charlotte area offices. Must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours.

In this role, you will lead a small engineering team while spending most of your time building — personally shipping production features in TypeScript / React, leading the team’s technical decisions and delivery, and managing and developing 2–3 direct reports. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with real people-management responsibilities: you will own the day-to-day management, growth, and performance of the engineers who report to you, in a deliberately lean, AI-forward environment.

Impact on the business: Technical Lead / Engineering Managers are the connective tissue between strategy and execution. They ship reliable, money-touching software themselves; they set the technical direction and delivery pace for a small team; and they grow the engineers they manage by staying close to the work — unblocking it, holding the quality bar, and modeling strong engineering practice.

What You’ll Do:

  • Personally build and ship production features in TypeScript / React, spending most of your time on implementation.
  • Lead technical decisions and delivery for a small team.
  • Manage and support the development of 2–3 engineers — these are your direct reports, and you’ll own their day-to-day management, growth, and performance.
  • Own sprint-to-sprint delivery — planning, prioritization, sequencing, and honest communication of scope, timeline, and risk.
  • Develop your direct reports through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, career growth conversations, and the harder conversations when they’re needed.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and peer engineering teams to align on priorities, resolve dependencies, and translate business goals into deliverable work.
  • Own team health and operational quality, including on-call, incident response, and a real quality and compliance bar in a regulated, money-touching domain.
  • Champion high-leverage, AI-forward ways of working that raise the team’s throughput without compromising quality.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, continuous learning, and inclusive team culture; remove blockers and create the conditions for engineers to do their best work.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong hands-on engineer or technical lead who still spends most of their time writing production code — and wants to keep it that way.
  • Recent, substantial TypeScript / React work you have personally built and shipped, within a primarily TypeScript-based stack spanning API services and full-stack web applications.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, leading delivery, and helping other engineers grow — and genuine interest in taking on real people-management responsibility for 2–3 direct reports. Extensive management experience is not required.
  • Solid delivery leadership: decomposing work, sequencing, managing dependencies and risk, and communicating status honestly.
  • Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; comfortable managing up, across, and outward.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and a lean operating model; biases toward leverage and automation over headcount.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS), infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation.
  • Familiar with observability/APM and incident-response tooling; upholds operational and quality standards for a regulated, money-touching product.
  • Fluent with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, or Microsoft Copilot, and able to use them to raise throughput and reduce toil while holding the review and quality bar.

Compensation:

Total Cash Compensation Range: $160,000 – $210,000 per year

This role is also eligible for Equity, which is offered separately from the total cash compensation listed above. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.

Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements. - Health Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, and vision) - Life Insurance - Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance - Flexible Spending Accounts - Holiday Pay - 401(k) with match - Employee Assistance Program - Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program - Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): We believe time to rest and recharge is essential. That’s why we offer a generous and flexible PTO policy. Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO for a full calendar year annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
