Job Summary
The 5 South Observation Unit supports both the Emergency Department and telemetry services by caring for low‑acuity patients who require short‑term monitoring to determine whether inpatient admission is needed. This fast‑moving unit relies on strong teamwork, clear communication, and efficient patient flow.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as the shift supervisor and key member of the unit’s leadership team
- Provides clinical guidance and support to staff throughout the shift
- Rounds on patients and families to ensure safety, satisfaction, and high‑quality care
- Collaborates closely with the Nurse Manager on operational needs, including scheduling, staff development, and maintaining clinical competence
- Promotes a positive, team‑oriented environment and supports smooth unit operations
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required
- Active Kentucky RN license
- Minimum of two years acute‑care hospital experience
- BCLS and ACLS required
