Department: Product Management

Location: Charlotte, US

Barings is a leading global financial services firm dedicated to meeting the evolving investment and capital needs of our clients and customers. Through active asset management and direct origination, we provide innovative solutions and access to differentiated opportunities across public and private capital markets. A subsidiary of MassMutual, Barings maintains a strong global presence with business and investment professionals located across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

The Product Management team promotes the firm’s growth strategy by developing commercially viable products and coordinating execution across the business. This senior role sits within the Product Management team and leads product strategy for private and alternative assets in the US Wealth market.

Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Private Assets Wealth is the senior Product Management representative for Barings’ private-asset investment teams in the US Wealth channel. The role will help lead the US Wealth product strategy and is accountable for developing, launching and managing products throughout their lifecycle. The role also leads market research, product-gap analysis and new product proposals, and presents recommendations to senior leadership and governance forums.

The role works closely with Client Portfolio Management, Distribution, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Investment, Finance, Tax and Risk, as well as external counsel, fund administrators, service providers, platforms and investors. The role may also manage and develop junior Product Management team members.

Key areas of focus include:

Product Strategy

  • Help lead US Wealth strategy and development for private and alternative assets, informed by market trends across US Wealth channels and coordinated with European and APAC colleagues.
  • Identify product gaps and growth priorities by wrapper and asset class, and evaluate concepts against client demand, investment fit, operational feasibility, regulatory requirements, economics and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the structures and regulations relevant to private-asset Wealth products, including US ’40 Act funds, ETFs, separately managed accounts and model portfolios.
  • Lead the preparation of product proposals, business cases, term sheets and decision logs, and present recommendations to senior leaders in Distribution, Client Portfolio Management and Investment, as well as to governance committees.
  • Internally champion Private Assets Wealth products and build alignment with Distribution and Investment leadership on priorities and sequencing.

Product Development and Launch

  • Lead product launches end to end, including project management, stakeholder alignment and execution across Barings.
  • Design and structure products such as non-traded or perpetual BDCs, interval funds, tender-offer funds, private funds relying on Section 3(c)(7), feeder vehicles, multi-asset solutions and separately managed account solutions, as applicable to the strategy and target channel.
  • Drive the structuring and modification of products, including documentation, fee and revenue modelling, seed-capital considerations and other required financial analysis.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert on commercial terms and product mechanics, including subscriptions, redemptions and other liquidity terms, leverage and distributions.
  • Maintain technical expertise in the evolving regulatory framework and assess appropriate product responses to changing requirements.
  • Lead each product launch through the Barings governance process.

Product Management

  • Serve as the primary Product Management representative to internal business partners on product-level matters, including fund economics, mechanics and investment restrictions.
  • Research and communicate product trends and innovations, with a focus on fund economics and mechanics.
  • Lead the product response to regulatory changes affecting private-asset Wealth products, in partnership with Legal and Compliance.
  • Partner with Client Portfolio Management, Distribution and other stakeholders to develop scalable distribution channels, platforms and structures
  • Monitor product performance, asset growth and fund economics, and recommend enhancements, restructurings or rationalisation where appropriate.
  • Lead, mentor and develop junior members of the product team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in product management, product development or a related field, including significant hands-on experience with private-asset Wealth products, distribution, product structures and external positioning.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with US ’40 Act funds, BDCs and US private funds, including product strategy, development and management.
  • Executive-level communicator, comfortable presenting recommendations to senior leadership and governance forums.
  • Proven track record of leading product launches end to end and influencing senior stakeholders across Investment, Distribution and support functions.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and excellent project-management skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
