The posting

We are looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to join Barker Associates, an award-winning, employee-owned, multi-disciplinary property consultancy. The role can be based from our Braintree or Birmingham office and will involve working on a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across projects from inception through to completion, working collaboratively with internal teams, external consultants and clients. They will take responsibility for effectively running projects to meet time, cost and quality targets.

The role will include undertaking mechanical condition surveys of existing buildings, carrying out technical surveys to inform building services feasibility strategies, preparing mechanical calculations and developing detailed mechanical designs using AutoCAD and Revit. They will also prepare technical documentation and drawings for tender, analyse tender returns and coordinate with internal and external design consultants.

The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, including attending pre-contract briefing visits, carrying out site inspections and reporting to clients on areas including health and safety, programme and quality of work. They will chair and minute external meetings, attend internal project meetings and manage aspects of project commercial delivery, including fee projections and issuing fee invoices.

The role profile includes responsibility at the level of a small team, single client or single project and describes the role as focused predominantly on project delivery.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
