WE ARE BASH

Bash is South Africa's largest omnichannel shopping platform. We connect over 500 brands across the physical and digital world, for millions of South Africans, every day. We're building something with real scale and real consequence.

We're founder led, a team of true owners and humble learners. We work hard, hold a high bar, and show up for each other. The problems aren't easy and the pace is real but when you break through, the impact is felt across the business and by the customers who rely on us.

If that sounds like the kind of place where you'd do the best work of your career, we'd like to meet you.

As a Buyer, you'll support the Bash Trading Division buying team in building the brand-product strategy & executing a product assortment that meets customer needs and drives sales.

You'll lead supplier sell-ins, make range selection decisions, and negotiate commercial terms. You'll work closely with merchandise planning, marketing and studio teams to bring each range to market.

This role suits a buying professional with solid category experience who is ready to take on greater commercial accountability, make confident decisions backed by data and trend insight, and support the development of those around them.

You will work closely with the wider buying team to manage day-to-day buying tasks — from order books and vendor communication to analysing sales data.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own the buying strategy for your categories, building and managing a product assortment that delivers on sales, margin and stock-turn targets
  • Lead supplier sell-ins, making range selection decisions for the Bash customer based on sales analysis, trend insight and brand direction
  • Negotiate pricing, cost prices, margins and terms with vendors to improve commercial return
  • Build and manage supplier relationships, following up on delivery, quality and performance
  • Work with merchandise planning to manage open-to-buy, ensuring stock levels, replenishment and intake are aligned to trade
  • Drive markdown and clearance decisions to protect margin and keep stock healthy
  • Analyse sales performance and share weekly trade insights and actions, identifying opportunities and risks within the category
  • Track market trends, competitor activity and customer feedback, and turn these into range opportunities
  • Collaborate with marketing and studio teams to ensure your categories are well supported through launch and promotion
  • Guide and support Junior Buyers and Merchandise Assistants, helping build capability within the buying team
  • Support the buying team in building and maintaining a product assortment that meets sales and margin targets

WHO YOU ARE:

This job is for you if you have:

  • Matric essential; a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Business, Retail, Marketing, or a related field is advantageous
  • 3+ years' experience in retail buying, including at least 1 year in a Junior Buyer or Buyer role with some category responsibility
  • A track record of contributing to sales and margin growth within a category
  • Strong understanding of retail math, open-to-buy, and stock and inventory management
  • Strong Excel skills (pivots, vlookups); experience with retail merchandising or planning systems advantageous
  • Good analytical ability, with confidence using sales data to inform commercial decisions
  • Solid negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Experience supporting or guiding junior team members advantageous
  • Highly organised and numerate, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to present trade insights to stakeholders
  • Commercially sharp, trend-aware, and decisive, with a passion for product and the Bash customer

We ask a few optional demographic questions to monitor fairness in hiring and comply with South Africa’s Employment Equity requirements. Your responses are confidential—stored separately from your application and never shown to hiring panels. We review the data only in aggregate to strengthen our sourcing so pipelines are diverse and all candidates receive equitable support. You can skip any question.

JOINING THE BASH TEAM

The qualities that allow you to thrive are curiosity, proactivity and a bias to action. If you are these things, joining the Bash team will catapult your career and ensure you do the best work, pushing past your preconceived boundaries.

We don't believe in padding this section with things that sound good on paper. Here's what working at Bash actually looks like:

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.
