The posting

Who are we?

You've probably seen our work without even realising it!

Bauer Media Outdoor is behind many of the adverts, bus shelters and digital screens you see every day, from busy high streets and shopping centres to roads, transport hubs and local neighbourhoods.

We're one of the UK's leading Out of Home media and infrastructure companies, operating more than 33,000 sites nationwide and looking after nearly 22,000 bus shelters. With teams across the UK, we combine advertising with the delivery and maintenance of public infrastructure that communities rely on every day.

We're part of Bauer Media Group, one of the world's largest privately owned media groups, with a rich heritage in media and a commitment to developing our people.

About the role

We are looking for a proactive, organised and hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to support the day-to-day running of our Dartford depot. Working 40 hours per week, you will play a key role in ensuring the operation runs smoothly, efficiently and safely, supporting the Operations Manager across all areas of the business.

You will oversee people, processes, fleet, facilities, health and safety and operational reporting, while supporting the delivery of key projects and business improvements. You will also provide leadership and line management support to Team Leaders across different departments, taking ownership of day-to-day challenges and ensuring issues are resolved before they escalate.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing large teams within a fast-paced warehouse, construction or operational environment. You will have strong people management skills, a good understanding of health and safety, training and onboarding, and the ability to take ownership, manage competing priorities and drive high standards across the depot.

What you’ll be doing

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the Dartford depot, ensuring all operational activities are completed efficiently, on time and in line with contractual service level agreements
  • Lead, support and develop the operational teams, including managing absence, recruitment, onboarding, training, performance reviews and employee relations.
  • Work closely with the Team Leader to plan and allocate workloads effectively, monitor productivity and ensure quality standards are consistently maintained.
  • Take ownership of depot health and safety, ensuring compliance with company policies, daily EcoOnline checks, incident reporting, investigations and training records.
  • Manage fleet and facilities, ensuring operatives have suitable vehicles, defects and repairs are resolved promptly and the depot remains safe, organised and presentable.
  • Monitor operational performance, maintaining accurate and timely reports, identifying areas for improvement and proactively addressing inefficiencies.
  • Support the Operations Manager with key projects, particularly the NWP and its future expansion, taking ownership of day-to-day delivery and supporting the Construction team where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational change, ensuring new processes are communicated, implemented and embedded across the teams.
  • Support cost control and operational efficiency, monitoring subcontracted services and escalating any potential risks, issues or opportunities to the Operations Manager.
  • Act as the first point of contact for the depot when the Operations Manager is unavailable, taking ownership of operational challenges and ensuring issues are resolved or escalated appropriately.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing large teams within a warehouse, construction or similar operational environment.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment, managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop team members.
  • Experience managing recruitment, onboarding, training and ongoing staff development.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements, compliance and incident management.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage workloads, deadlines and operational priorities.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to make decisions and take ownership.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach, with a focus on continuous improvement, operational efficiency and maintaining high standards.

What’s in it for you?

  • Independent working
  • Company car
  • A decent salary of £47,000 for a job that works for you
  • We pay an annual bonus
  • Christmas parties, summer BBQ’s and lots of opportunity to socialise if you want to
  • 25 days paid annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Company pension up to 8%, life insurance and group income protection schemes
  • Cycle to work scheme, travel season ticket loans and a whole host of discounts across 100s of retailers
  • Full training and development plan

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
