The posting

At BBH, Partnership is more than a form of ownership—it’s our approach to business and relationships. We know that supporting your professional and personal goals is the best way to help our clients and advance our business. We take that responsibility seriously. With a 200-year legacy and a shared passion for what’s next, this is the right place to build a fulfilling career.

Robust Risk Management centered on the protection of the firm and its clients is core to BBH’s philosophy. The FX Risk Manager is responsible for the independent oversight and management of market, liquidity, and related risks arising from the bank's Foreign Exchange trading activities. The role serves as senior risk partner to the FX business, while being organizationally positioned to exercise independent risk oversight and challenge, and to ensure FX trading activities are conducted within the bank's established risk appetite, limits, policies, and regulatory constraints.

The position requires a deep understanding of FX markets, trading strategies, risk measurement methodologies, and the regulatory environment applicable to a US banking organization with a global client base.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

Risk Management & Governance

  • Provide independent risk oversight of the FX trading desk and associated functions
  • Establish, maintain, and evolve quantitative techniques and risk methodologies to measure market and volatility risk
  • Build and maintain a team of risk professionals capable of operating independently from the business in analysis and data gathering, and establish the team as a center of excellence for risk analytics
  • Assess the impact of major market events, including currency shocks, central bank actions, geopolitical events, and changes in market liquidity
  • Oversee the preparation of risk reporting and analysis, including ad hoc analysis, and ensure its appropriateness for executive oversight bodies
  • Provide technical expertise to develop increasingly efficient approaches to daily risk oversight for BBH’s FX business
  • Serve as a senior point of contact between the FX department and Treasury, Credit Risk, Operations, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Model Risk
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance P&L analytical tools
  • Help determine appropriate actions to resolve risk events, such as market exposures, arising within FX or other areas of BBH’s Markets division
  • Assess risks associated with new FX products and services

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline; advanced degree or professional qualification desirable
  • 10–15+ years of relevant experience in financial markets, market risk, trading, quantitative risk, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in a front office risk or control function within the financial services industry

Knowledge and Skills (general and technical)

  • Prior experience as an FX risk manager, FX trader, quantitative analyst, or senior market risk professional
  • Experience managing risk during periods of significant market stress
  • Familiarity with quantitative risk measurement methodologies, e.g. VaR
  • Experience coding and building prototype risk models and reports using Python, R, SQL, or similar tools, or overseeing such efforts
  • Ability to explain complex quantitative risk concepts clearly to senior executives and non-specialists
  • Demonstrated leadership and influence, identify risks, develop solutions, align cross-functional teams, and drive complex initiatives through completion
  • Ability to balance business needs with risk considerations, provide independent challenge, and clearly articulate issues to senior stakeholders and oversight committees
  • Deep understanding of FX markets, trading strategies, risk measurement methodologies, and the regulatory environment applicable to a US banking organization with a global client base
  • Experience with BI tools, such as Qlik, Spotfire, or Sisense, is beneficial
  • Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and team development skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships, navigate competing priorities, and develop risk professionals

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
