Water/Wastewater/Water Resources Project Manager

We have a career opportunity for an experienced professional engineer who has previous experience with water/wastewater, water resources engineering, hydraulic and stormwater management and environmental permitting. The ideal candidate will have both the technical background and leadership experience or potential to successfully manage a broad range of projects.

The successful candidate will self-perform and direct project teams in the planning and design of water-related infrastructure projects, as well as play an important role in managing client relationships. The position includes involvement in strategic initiatives that will continue to drive the growth of the water/wastewater group, not only in Pennsylvania but nationwide.

Location

This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from either of our MA or CT locations. This position requires onsite and client meetings; otherwise, this position has the opportunity for a flexible hybrid work schedule with travel as necessary for client needs.

Key Projects Leading the Way in Massachusetts

Our Massachusetts Division is proud to lead high-impact projects that demonstrate the depth and diversity of our expertise:

  • Bill Russell Bridge Replacement in Boston, MA – Transforming the North Washington Street crossing of the Boston Inner Harbor through this $177m signature bridge replacement project with coastal hydraulic modeling, environmental permitting, drainage outfall design as well as water main replacement.
  • Route 6 Bridge Replacements and Causeway Widening in Marion and Wareham, MA – Transforming this coastal causeway with new bridges widened roadway and shared use paths though this $69m transportation project with coastal hydraulic modeling and environmental permitting as well as drainage design in an environmentally active area of MA.
  • Route 147 Complete Streets Revitalization in Agawam and West Springfield, MA – Improving access to the Big E though this $25m complete streets design of major roadways and intersections as well as the replacement of the Morgan Sullivan Bridge over the Westfield River with hydraulic modeling and environmental permitting as well as drainage design along the in an environmentally active area of MA.

We also work around the country on more in-depth Water and Wastewater Projects:

  • Bath Borough Authority - Water Distribution System Mapping and Hydraulic Modeling – Collecting GIS data for over 18 miles of the water distribution system, modeling to determine system needs, and providing a table based GIS system for clients use in field operations.
  • Shenandoah Municipal Sewer Authority - Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades –Engineering design for an upgrade to an existing 2.0 MGD wastewater treatment plant. Benesch has been involved in the project from planning through design and pending construction or the project valued at over $20 million. Design included headworks, primary and final clarification, aeration and disinfection.
  • Hazleton City Authority – Lehigh River Pump Station – Evaluating a 5 MGD pump station for a permanent cleaning system to address pump intakes as soil and debris accumulation.
  • Ashland Area Municipal Authority – Various Projects – Serving as municipal representative for a long-standing client, where projects such as water system upgrades, dam inspections, treatment plant enhancements, permitting and operations are completed as part of an annual retainer. Benesch represents a number of Authorities and Municipalities in this capacity throughout the state.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Managing the responsibilities for projects and employees
  • Control and review of scope, schedule, and budget; executing project work plans from start to finish
  • Resources available or ability to request resources to effectively complete successful projects
  • Ability to utilize accounting and scheduling software for project management
  • Coordinate with the Group Manager on project needs, company growth, and personal career development
  • Ownership of the financial aspects of the projects assigned
  • Marketing outreach ability including client contacts with existing and potential clients
  • Opportunity for business development and “add-on” sales opportunities as they relate to a specific project
  • Growth in career and project management experience

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience with water resources, drinking water, wastewater, hydraulics and/or environmental permitting.
  • Licensed PE in Massachusetts
  • Existing client relationships in Massachusetts desired
  • Excellent communication and client relation skills
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act . The final agreed-upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including but not limited to individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary, overtime, and bonuses.
