Software Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

Bentley Systems is seeking a Manager, Software Development, to lead and develop teams within Facilities Engineering group. Facilities Engineering group is responsible for advancing software and services for Plant, Building and Structural engineering domains.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Software Engineering, this role is responsible for building and leading high-performing software development teams that deliver impactful platform capabilities while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work and grow their careers. While the primary focus of this role is leading people and developing talent, the successful candidate must be able to establish credibility with technical leads and senior engineers enabling strong partnerships and effective leadership within highly technical teams

Success in this role is measured through the growth and engagement of colleagues, the strength of the team culture, and the team's ability to consistently deliver results. The manager will partner closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers, and peer leaders to create clarity, alignment, and focus across the organization.

While your chief focus will be on people leadership, talent coaching, and aligning cross-functional efforts with Product Managers and peer leaders, you will also play a pioneering role in our delivery modernization by introducing and optimizing AI-agentic workflows and developer-assistant tooling to maximize engineering throughput.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach, and develop their team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance.

• Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, manage performance, and support the career growth and development of team members.

• Build and maintain engaged, inclusive, and high-performing teams while identifying and developing future leaders and key talent.

• Align teams around business priorities, goals, and desired outcomes, ensuring teams have the clarity, focus, and support needed to deliver successfully.

• Drive accountability for results and partner closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers, and peer leaders to successfully deliver results.

• Define and execute the AI-assisted engineering strategy for the department, aligning AI adoption with organizational objectives, engineering excellence, technology standards, and business

• Champion Bentley's vision, values, and strategic priorities, helping teams understand how their work contributes to broader organizational success.

• Support hiring, workforce planning, retention, and team health to ensure long-term organizational effectiveness.

• Foster collaboration across teams and remove barriers that impact team performance and delivery.

• Conduct employee performance reviews.

• Participate in recruitment and dismissal processes.

• This role requires minimal travel.

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in an engineering leadership or team lead role.

• Demonstrated success developing technical talent through coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.

• Experience designing and establishing team-wide AI-agent workflows and guardrails to maximize engineering output while maintaining rigorous quality and security standards.

• High emotional intelligence with a transparent, collaborative leadership style.

• Proven ability to build engaged, high-performing teams and establish credibility with technical leads and senior engineers while fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence across teams and functions.

• Ability to create clarity, align teams around priorities, and lead effectively through change and ambiguity.

• Understanding of software development practices, engineering team dynamics, and the challenges of delivering technology solutions on a scale.

• Experience with technologies such as Microsoft Visual Studio and the .NET Framework.

• Proven experience and strong knowledge of C++ / C# / .NET, TypeScript / JavaScript, and web development with Node.js and React.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• A general understanding of infrastructure designs, engineering and construction is a plus.

• Git - DCVS

• Backlog Management Tools TFS/ADO/Jira.

• Exposure to Azure DevOps.
