Cofounder In Residence, Wave

Wave is an AI-native startup built inside BetterFutureLabs. It uses voice-first, multimodal AI to radically accelerate the process of creating insurance claims estimates. Every year, more than 5 million water damage claims are filed in the U.S., handled by over 60,000 damage restoration companies. Yet, it still takes weeks to produce an estimate and, on average, 45 days for homeowners to receive their first insurance check.

Wave automates this process, acting as a smart assistant that interprets spoken notes, analyzes job data, and produces complete estimates in minutes. The product is already live in beta with paying customers and is being developed in close partnership with a ServPro franchise owner who is both a design partner and cofounder, ensuring the product is grounded in the real workflows of restoration professionals.

We’re looking for a Cofounder-in-Residence to lead Wave’s traction, product roadmap, and funding. This is a chance to step in early, validate, and become the full-time CEO.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive Sales: Own outbound. Talk to restoration companies, adjusters, and carriers. Design pilots and close real deals.
  • Lay the GTM Foundation: Shape the early GTM plan we’ll use to reach contractors, restoration teams, and insurance carriers - and own the process of testing and refining it.
  • Validate the GTM Motion: Define the ICP, shape the wedge, test pricing. Iterate quickly based on what the market says.
  • Shape the Narrative: Build the story and pitch that connects with both customers and investors. Translate user pain into vision.
  • Lead the Company: If aligned, incorporate Wave with us and become its full-time CEO, with full backing from BetterFutureLabs.
  • Own the Product Roadmap: Through customer feedback and discovery conversations, help define our must-have vs nice-to-have feature set.

About You

  • Resourceful - You figure out a way to get into the rooms you need to be in no matter what, no job is below you, roll up your sleeves, use AI to get leverage.
  • You lead with urgency, allergic to the “I’ll do it tomorrow” mindset, don’t drop a followup, automate what you can, and ship before others even start writing a spec.
  • You’ve led or founded early-stage products, and know how to thrive in ambiguity and move without permission.
  • You’re comfortable selling, and excited to spend your time talking to customers and getting to “yes.” or “no.” because no’s can be just as valuable.
  • You move fast, are allergic to “wait and see,” and are energized by getting real traction under real deadlines.
  • You want to be a Cofounder - not just in title, but in ownership, mindset, and commitment.

Bonus: You’ve worked in or around insurance, restoration, or claims tech - or you’re deeply curious and quick to ramp up.

Bonus #2: You’ve got a network in the restoration or insurance space and know how to leverage it to get pilots moving.

Why This Matters

Insurance claims are the backbone of recovery after disasters - from burst pipes to hurricanes - but the process of documenting and estimating jobs is slow, inconsistent, and expensive. With millions of claims each year, tens of thousands of contractors, and weeks-long delays before the first payment is released, the system is broken for both customers and insurers.

Wave is built to change that. By turning spoken notes, photos, and job data into accurate estimates instantly, Wave collapses timelines from weeks to minutes and accelerates the path to payment.
