The Role
Join the CIPS Research Team to build the embedded firmware that demonstrates real-world performance of novel power and cooling technologies for the fast-growing data center sector. You will lead a small team and work directly on early-stage research and proof-of-concept designs.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead a team designing and implementing embedded firmware in C/C++ and HDLs on MCUs, DSPs and FPGAs.
• Develop real-time control loops, PWM generation, ADC sampling, protection, fault handling, calibration, communications and sensor integration.
• Own controller selection by understanding hardware and control requirements.
• Create automated unit and integration tests and support HIL/SIL test benches.
• Contribute to system requirements, architecture, code reviews and documentation, using coding standards and version control to produce reusable software.
• Support design for safety, compliance and reliability.
• Research new controller devices and architectures for lab demonstrations and product integration.
• Write research reports, design guides, patents and performance reports.
Requirements
• PhD or Master's in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering (or related).
• 5+ years in control theory and signal processing.
• Understanding of common power electronic architectures (AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC) and control methods.
• Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink, embedded C/C++ and software architecture design.
• Experience defining controller platforms and managing code across multiple projects.
• Solid grasp of microcontroller architectures, sensors and communication protocols.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing with oscilloscopes, electronic loads and power analysers.
• Simulation skills (MATLAB, Simulink, Python, LT spice).
• Strong analytical, leadership and communication skills, with experience planning projects, allocating engineering resource and reporting status.
