The Team

Bitcoin at Block builds products and platforms that help make bitcoin, stablecoins, and non-custodial wallets accessible to people around the world. We work across Cash App, Square, and Bitkey to create secure, reliable, high-quality mobile and hardware experiences used by millions of people.

We’re looking for an iOS engineer who loves building products and can move quickly through unfamiliar problems. You’ll work closely with product, design, and engineering partners to turn complex financial capabilities into clear, reliable customer experiences.

The Role

As a Staff iOS Engineer on Bitcoin, you will own the technical direction and delivery of a critical area of our iOS product experience with bitcoin and stablecoin. This is a hands-on role: you’ll prototype new ideas, make architectural decisions, write production code, and lead work through launch and ongoing improvement.

The work extends beyond the client. You’ll align product requirements with backend capabilities, resolve dependencies with partner teams, and make tradeoffs across customer experience, delivery speed, security, and reliability. You’ll personally tackle the hardest design and implementation problems while helping other engineers contribute effectively.

Your impact will come from shipping valuable products and making the next release better: fewer recurring problems, clearer interfaces, stronger testing, and practices the team can use independently.

You Will

Build and evolve the iOS product

  • Build products in iOS related to bitcoin, stablecoin and non custodial wallets.
  • Work across interfaces in Cash App, Square and Bitkey.
  • Own complex features end to end, including client architecture, service integration, testing, rollout, and post-launch improvements.
  • Work with product and design to shape customer journeys, prototype new interactions, and turn open questions into delivery plans.
  • Build prototypes, reference implementations, and critical paths that prove a direction before broader adoption.
  • Contribute bitcoin and stablecoin technology to open source when it creates value for the broader community.
  • Influence the technical direction within the product area, making explicit tradeoffs and sequencing dependencies with adjacent teams.
  • Improve architecture and shared components where they make product development faster, safer, or more consistent.
  • Build automated testing, observability, and safe rollout practices into delivery, with security, privacy, and compliance safeguards appropriate to the risks.

Lead as an AI-fluent engineer

  • Integrate AI-assisted development tools into daily workflows to drive leverage across bitcoin engineering.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and practices, building durable, AI-powered capabilities where they add clear value.
  • Verify AI-assisted outputs and ensure high standards for software quality, security, and reliability.
  • Contribute to codebases beyond your iOS specialty.

Make the team more effective

  • Operate beyond your immediate team to identify and address cross-cutting technical problems.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews across team boundaries.
  • Surface systemic risks before they become customer, seller, or engineering problems.
  • Mentor engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and structured guidance that helps them take on greater ownership.
  • Help set technical standards that improve the quality and velocity of iOS development over time.

Collaborate broadly

  • Partner with engineers, product managers, designers, and engineering leaders to align technical investments with product needs.
  • Work with Android, web, and backend engineers to improve shared product foundations and cross-platform experiences.
  • Represent bitcoin iOS in cross-team and company-wide technical discussions.
  • Communicate complex technical decisions clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years building native iOS products.
  • Deep experience building, shipping, and maintaining native iOS products using Swift and Apple frameworks.
  • Experience creating foundational systems, shared frameworks and tooling used widely on your team.
  • A record of leading strategic initiatives with broad adoption and durable impact.
  • Strong systems thinking, technical communication, mentoring, and organizational influence.

Ideally, you also have:

  • Experience working in large, modular iOS applications, including existing UIKit or Objective-C codebases.
  • Experience with build systems, continuous integration and delivery, testing infrastructure, observability, or mobile performance.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing or seller-facing products in financial services, commerce, or another high-trust environment.
  • Experience with experimentation infrastructure, feature flags, or large-scale product delivery.
  • Experience working with bitcoin, stablecoin and non custodial technologies.
  • A record of identifying and leading work that was not already on a team's roadmap.

Technologies we use and teach

  • Swift, Objective-C, SwiftUI, and UIKit
  • Swift Concurrency and Combine
  • Xcode and Instruments
  • Bazel and other build and dependency-management systems
  • Protocol Buffers and shared client-server interfaces
  • Unit, snapshot, integration, and user interface testing
  • Performance, observability, and release-safety tooling
  • AI-assisted development tools

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
