THE OPPORTUNITY

A career-defining opportunity rarely offers all of the following:

Direct connection to the mission. Gain a clear understanding of the business and see how your work directly shapes outcomes. With no unnecessary layers, silos, or bureaucracy, every team member contributes meaningfully to the company's success and has the responsibility to drive real impact.

Growth beyond a single role. At Boston Materials, you are not defined by your past experience or limited by a job description. Working alongside leading experts in the field, you will take on new challenges, broaden your expertise, develop new capabilities, and take ownership of projects that matter – while contributing to the broader success of the organization.

Work on problems that matter. Help solve some of the most pressing challenges in the Advanced Semiconductor, AI Infrastructure, and Advanced Materials industries. Boston Materials offers a rare combination of purpose, autonomy, and impact. We invite you to join us.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design the components that surround and support our thermal interface material inside an electronic package — lids, stiffeners, carriers, shims, seals, standoffs, and the assembly provisions that hold everything in position.
  • Create 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings, and iterate designs against tolerance stack-ups, assembly loads, thermal budgets, and manufacturability feedback.
  • Fabricate, build, and test package mockups to demonstrate design feasibility, including mechanical, thermal, and accelerated reliability testing.
  • Machine parts in house on shop equipment — abrasive waterjet cutting, manual milling, and CNC milling.
  • Assemble and instrument test articles hands-on: material application, fastening to specified loads, thermocouple and sensor placement, and teardown inspection.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze mechanical and thermal test data to support design decisions and identify meaningful trends.
  • Engage machine shops, vendors, and suppliers to source custom parts and hardware — request quotes and technical specifications, incorporate DFM feedback, and track fabrication against project schedules.
  • Author and maintain drawings, design documentation, and assembly work instructions for evolving hardware.
  • Provide general engineering support across the team as project needs change.

Your Required Skills and Expertise

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Working proficiency with a 3D CAD package (SolidWorks preferred), and interest in becoming fluent in fabrication drawings, tolerancing, and GD&T.
  • Experience with or genuine interest in metal fabrication.
  • A hands-on disposition and interest in seeing parts you designed get made, assembled, and tested.
  • Comfortable moving between different types of tasks and problems in a fast-paced, changing environment — a single week may span CAD, machining, vendor coordination, benchtop assembly, testing, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data.
  • Clear, organized technical writing ability.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience of any kind — academic labs, personal or maker projects, machining, electronics, coding, or a prior co-op/internship — is valued.
  • Interest or coursework in mechanical design, mechanics of materials, heat transfer, or FEA is a plus.
  • A safety-conscious, self-directed, and organized approach to work.

What You'll Gain

  • Ownership of meaningful design work and broad exposure to mechanical design for advanced semiconductor packaging at a growing advanced-materials company developing next-generation liquid metal thermal interface materials for AI and data center hardware.
  • Experience spanning CAD and drawing release, in-house fabrication, prototyping, machine-shop and vendor coordination, mechanical and thermal testing, and technical documentation.
  • Real time on metal fabrication equipment — waterjet, manual mill, and CNC — and the design judgment that only comes from making the parts you drew.
  • A close look at how packaging hardware decisions — loads, tolerances, materials, and interfaces — determine whether a thermal solution works in a real system.
  • The opportunity to see parts you designed fabricated, assembled, and tested in hardware that goes in front of customers.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
