Job Description:

About Archaea

bp is committed to investing in lower carbon energy so we can meet our ambition to reach net zero by 2050. And while we’re still mostly in oil and gas today, bioenergy is one of our five transition growth engines and a key focus to help us support the global energy transition.

Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill gas to energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the US. With big ambitions, we specialize in the development, construction and operation of RNG, landfill-gas-to-electric and dairy digester facilities. The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.

About the role

The Director of Measurement will lead and oversee the measurement and gas quality function for RNG facilities, including custody transfer metering, gas chromatographs and gas quality analyzers, and the measurement data that supports product sales, pipeline and utility interconnect requirements, and environmental credit programs. This role will set the strategic direction for measurement, ensuring accurate, compliant, and defensible measurement across the Archaea’s RNG facilities. This role requires strong technical expertise in natural gas measurement and gas quality analysis, leadership capabilities to manage a team of measurement specialists and third-party measurement service providers, understanding of project execution, and the ability to drive process improvements within a fast-paced environment. This role provides measurement engineering services in all project and operation phases, which include measurement design standards for greenfield/brownfield development, meter station and analyzer specification, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration and proving programs, measurement data management, and support of interconnect audits and regulatory reporting. Travel requirement of 10-15%.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to prioritize measurement initiatives and allocate resources effectively
  • Project Execution
  • Maintain the design standard for measurement and gas quality across new greenfield RNG projects.
  • Oversee development of measurement deliverables such as meter station and meter run designs, analyzer and sample system specifications, flow computer configurations, measurement datasheets, and uncertainty calculations.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party engineering companies and pipeline/utility interconnect operators on meter station design reviews and interconnect measurement requirements.
  • Oversee factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing of meter skids, flow computers, and gas quality analyzers.
  • Act as a liaison between Project Managers, the controls engineering team, and measurement vendors for installation, configuration, and commissioning of measurement systems.
  • Coordinate with the controls engineering team on integration of flow computers and analyzers with PLC, SCADA, and historian systems.
  • Oversees commissioning activities including meter and analyzer startup, calibration, and witness testing with interconnect operators.

Operations Support

  • Provides measurement and gas quality support operating RNG facilities
  • Owns the measurement calibration, verification, and meter proving program across all sites, including schedules, procedures, and records
  • Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and auditability of electronic flow measurement (EFM) data and oversees measurement balancing, volume reconciliation, and lost and unaccounted for (LAUF) investigations
  • Ensures measurement systems meet compliance, commercial, and regulatory requirements, including pipeline and utility interconnect gas quality tariffs
  • Partners with the commercial and environmental teams to ensure measurement data and methods support product sales, RFS/RIN generation, LCFS, GHG reporting, and third-party verification
  • Serves as the primary contact for interconnect operators on measurement disputes, audits, and gas quality events
  • Oversees version control and backups of flow computer and analyzer configurations, and maintains measurement documentation
  • Ensures obsolescence of measurement and analyzer equipment is monitored, tracked and prioritize

Essential education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field

Essential experience

  • 10+ years experience in natural gas measurement supporting projects or operations of oil/gas, midstream, gas processing, utilities, RNG, etc.
  • Experience managing teams

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
