Job Description:

About bp

Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, fueled by world-class insight and expertise. We’re always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too!

About the team

The Trading Analyst will be part of the front office commercial trading team and directly assist the Distillates, Biofuels, and High Sulfur trade desks. The position will be responsible for supporting the full deal lifecycle, including accurate and timely deal capture and entry in the system of record and trader sheets; validation of commercial terms; coordination of amendments, cancellations and other lifecycle events; investigation and resolution of data, position and valuation breaks; and follow-through with traders and middle- and back-office teams to ensure deals remain accurate through settlement. This role will also assist additional bench projects as requested.

This is a dynamic front office position with direct engagement with the trading bench and can serve as a stepping-stone to a front-line commercial role.

  • Perform end of day reconciliation between system of record and trader sheets. Also ensure trader marks are properly loaded at end of day.
  • Continuously explore and implement ways to improve current processes and ways of working on the trade desk.
  • Ability to thoroughly understand and interpret the various deals transacted by the trading team and to question any details that do not look accurate, ensuring BP aligns with regulatory deal entry requirements, e.g. timely deal entry and resolution of issues preventing data flow for reporting requirements.
  • Ensure deal entry metrics remain in line with KPI expectations, and record explanations as to any deal entry errors.
  • Maintain up-to-date procedures and capture these in the desk manual.
  • Act as point of contact for any issues or questions that arise from middle or back office related to deals on the bench.
  • Coordinate deal amendments, cancellations and lifecycle updates, ensuring changes are reflected accurately and consistently across the system of record and trader sheets.
  • Monitor daily physical and financial deals, location and timing, and reconcile positions between trader tools, the system of record and relevant reports.
  • Investigate position and valuation breaks; identify root causes; and coordinate timely correction or critical issue with traders and relevant middle- and back-office teams.
  • Prepare clear and timely summaries for the trading bench, highlighting material changes, limit concerns, data-quality issues and items requiring trader action.

  • Ability to work under pressure with specified timelines and due dates
  • Attention to detail is key
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Self-motivated
  • Proven interpersonal and communications skills
  • Knowledge of trading deals and commercial terms
  • Ability to improve efficiency and reduce complexity through process improvements

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
