The posting

Responsibilities Position Summary Brasfield & Gorrie is hiring a Civil Site Engineer to join the Civil & Geotech Practice inside the Design & Engineering department. This role focuses on the site civil engineering that supports B&G’s building project portfolio — grading and earthwork, stormwater and drainage design, utility layout, erosion control, and site-civil permitting for industrial, healthcare, commercial, and mixed-use projects across the Southeast. Because B&G leads the design as the GC, you work directly with the project team — preconstruction, estimating, and field operations — throughout the design process. You are not handing off drawings to a builder after the fact. You are designing with the team that constructs the project, which means real-time input on constructability, sequencing, and cost that most consulting engineers never get. This role targets a Senior Engineer I or II depending on experience and licensure. We are primarily looking for someone with 8 to 12 years of site civil experience, but we encourage candidates with six or more years and strong technical foundations to apply. Scope of responsibility and reporting will be calibrated to where the right candidate actually lands. Responsibilities and Essential Duties Site Civil Design • Lead the site civil engineering for building projects — including industrial, healthcare, mixed-use, and commercia[ST2.1]l — from schematic through construction documents. • Design grading and earthwork plans, including cut/fill balancing, site geometry, and construction sequencing coordination with field operations. • Design stormwater management and drainage systems: detention and retention ponds, bioretention, underground systems, outfall design, and conveyance networks. • Design utility layouts including water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems in coordination with MEP and civil consultants. • Prepare erosion and sedimentation control plans compliant with applicable state NPDES and local land disturbance requirements. • Design site access, internal circulation, and pavement sections in coordination with structural and preconstruction teams. • Prepare construction documents, calculations, and reports suitable for permit submittal and agency review, sealed in accordance with applicable state PE licensure laws. Design-Build and Preconstruction Support • Support preconstruction teams on design-build pursuits by developing conceptual site civil schemes, identifying permitting risk, and preparing rough order-of-magnitude civil cost input. • Participate in design-build RFP reviews and proposal development, providing civil site scope definition and technical input. • Identify site constraints early — floodplain, streams & wetlands, utility conflicts, jurisdictional requirements — and communicate impacts to the project team during preconstruction. • Provide value engineering input on civil scope during preconstruction, including earthwork optimization, stormwater credit strategies, and utility routing alternatives. Permitting and Regulatory Coordination • Manage site civil permitting across multiple jurisdictions — including land disturbance permits, stormwater management plan approvals, utility connection permits, and floodplain development permits. • Coordinate with local municipalities, counties, state DOTs, and environmental agencies on permit submittals, review cycles, and approvals. • Respond to agency comments, prepare resubmittals, and manage permit timelines in coordination with the project schedule. • Maintain awareness of regulatory changes in target jurisdictions (Alabama, Georgia, and other Southeast states) that affect land development and site civil work. Project Team Coordination • Coordinate with structural engineers, MEP engineers, VDC staff, and external civil consultants on site-civil interfaces including foundation drainage, utility sleeves, and grading at building perimeters. • Participate in project-team meetings representing civil site engineering scope, schedule, and delivery. • Coordinate with field operations on civil work sequencing, earthwork execution, and erosion control compliance during construction. • Manage external civil consultants on design-build projects where B&G retains a consultant EOR; review consultant documents for compliance with B&G’s design standards and project requirements. Quality Control and Standards • Perform QA/QC review of civil site drawings, calculations, and permit packages prepared by staff engineers or external consultants. • Apply and help develop the department’s civil site engineering standards, drawing conventions, and calculation templates. • Mentor and provide technical direction to junior civil engineers and discipline engineers on assigned projects. • Support Responsible Charge and sealing of civil site deliverables on assigned projects in accordance with state PE licensing requirements (Senior II band and above, or by designation). Construction Phase Support • Support construction operations by reviewing submittals, RFIs, and field conditions affecting civil site scope. • Evaluate work that may be out of specification — grading discrepancies, drainage conflicts, erosion control deficiencies — and develop remediation approaches. • Conduct periodic site visits to verify civil work is progressing in accordance with the construction documents. Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. • 6 to 12 years of civil site engineering experience with a primary focus on land development, site design, or commercial/industrial site civil work. We encourage candidates at 6+ years with strong technical depth to apply. • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire. Candidates with an EIT actively pursuing licensure will be considered at the Engineer or Discipline Engineer band. • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for site grading, drainage design, and construction document production. • Working knowledge of stormwater management design — hydrology, hydraulics, detention and retention systems, and applicable software (HydroCAD, StormCAD, or equivalent). • Familiarity with land disturbance permitting and NPDES compliance in Alabama, Georgia, or other Southeast states. • Solid engineering judgment on site civil matters — grading, drainage, utilities, and permitting — with the ability to resolve field conditions and design conflicts independently. • Ability to work collaboratively across preconstruction, construction, and engineering teams while managing competing priorities. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface directly with project teams, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies. • Willingness to travel periodically for project site visits and coordination meetings. Preferred: • Experience in a design-build or GC-integrated delivery environment. • Industrial or healthcare site civil experience, including large impervious area sites, heavy truck and equipment access design, and complex utility coordination. • Familiarity with ALDOT or GDOT standards for driveway access and roadway tie-in design. • Experience with floodplain permitting, FEMA LOMA/LOMR submittals, or wetland delineation coordination. • Ability to obtain and maintain State Erosion and Sedimentation Control Certification within 6 months of hire (Georgia Level 1B or Alabama equivalent). • Experience managing external civil consultants as the GC’s representative on design-build projects.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
