About the Opportunity

Brighton Solutions is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Construction Project Assistant to support a nationally recognized testing laboratory specializing in building products, construction materials, and fire performance testing.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with a background in construction, carpentry, mechanical work, fabrication, or a related technical field who is interested in developing their skills in project coordination and management.

In this role, you'll combine hands-on construction and testing activities with project support responsibilities, including scheduling, documentation, reporting, and coordination with engineers and laboratory personnel.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands but also has the organizational skills, technical curiosity, and ambition to grow into a project management role.

What You'll Do

Construction & Laboratory Testing

  • Assist with the construction, assembly, modification, and dismantling of building product test structures and assemblies.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical instructions.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Prepare materials, equipment, and test assemblies for scheduled laboratory testing.
  • Support technicians and engineers during testing activities.
  • Inspect assemblies and materials to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with testing requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

Project Coordination & Technical Support

  • Assist project managers and engineers with planning, organizing, and tracking building product testing projects.
  • Help coordinate project schedules, material availability, equipment readiness, and testing activities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including photographs, measurements, test records, and progress updates.
  • Assist with preparing technical reports, test summaries, and supporting documentation.
  • Track project milestones, schedules, and outstanding tasks to help ensure timely completion.
  • Review project specifications and testing requirements to help identify materials, equipment, and resources needed.
  • Communicate project updates and potential issues to engineers, project managers, and other personnel.
  • Participate in identifying opportunities to improve testing procedures, project workflows, and laboratory efficiency.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in construction, carpentry, framing, fabrication, mechanical maintenance, building materials testing, or a related hands-on technical environment.
  • Ability to safely and confidently operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, or technical specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using computers for documentation, data entry, reporting, and project tracking.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and project management personnel.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a willingness to learn new technical processes.
  • Interest in developing project coordination and project management skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required. Additional education or training in construction management, engineering technology, industrial technology, or a related field is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a construction testing, manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, or laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, or project management software.
  • Experience preparing work reports, inspection documentation, or technical records.
  • Exposure to construction quality control, building codes, or testing standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Comfortable working around construction materials, machinery, and laboratory testing equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.
  • Comfortable working in a combination of laboratory, industrial, and office environments.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
